ravishingravi Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 on current rankings the WI shouldn't be making it out of the group stages. on recent performance, the west indies shouldn't be making it out of the group stages. yes, if you go by the rankings from 1980, then sure, the WI are clear favorites to win this tourney... Rankings have to be put in context. I think it is implied. They haven't have had a fully fit team or a team without the disputes with the board for almost 3 years. Ofcourse it will hamper the ranking when their best players haven't played for long.

Can we please move on first then talk? You do realize that if Gayle gets going even B. Lee has no chance.
Jersey #10 Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 Can we please move on first then talk? You do realize that if Gayle gets going even B. Lee has no chance. Gayle is not as badass as some people make him to be. He is just another FTB.
Zap_Brannigan Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Rankings have to be put in context. I think it is implied. BD's move up the ranking was really fortuitous 1. WI and WICB has problems resulting in WI sending 2nd string players to BD, which to BD's credit they beat. 2. India resting most of its team and trying out a few newbs in Zimbawe, losing in Zim. This led to a good increase of points for Zim. Then BD beat Zim. A year ago, BD beating Zim would have hardly meant any rise in points but suddenly it meant a lot more. 3. To a lesser extent, WI playing some of the toughest teams in ODI's. Although BD did well to beat Zim and NZ recently, WI has been in pretty bad shape in the last couple of years. Let's wait and see if BD actually wins more than 1 game per year against good teams from now on and make this ranking stick.
punjabi_khota Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Gayle is not as badass as some people make him to be. He is just another FTB. He just scored 2 tons in the OZ tour in the test series. What makes you think he can't take on OZ in ODIs in India.

Most of the points came from the 4 nil win against NZ, not from zimbos. Point gain from a lower rank team is almost negligible.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 He just scored 2 tons in the OZ tour in the test series. What makes you think he can't take on OZ in ODIs in India. he is talking crap gayle is a monster in india. 6 hundreds and a batting average of almost 60 in the 19 matches he has played here. he will score some big runs in this tournament
Zap_Brannigan Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 fortuitous my @ss. Most of the points came from the 4 nil win against NZ' date=' not from zimbos. Point gain from a lower rank team is almost negligible.[/quote'] You are right. You didnt gain by Zim victory. But pretty much everything else is correct. WI lost a huge chunk when they lost to you 2 years back and hasnt won many since then. That series also pushed you from the realms of Zim and Ireland towards WI. WI continuous loss kept them down and your victory against NZ made you jump over them. Before the WI team debacle, there was a difference of 45 points between you and WI. The WI loss closed the gap to 24 points between you and WI. By beating NZ you closed the gap further by only 14 points. So the WI win got you closer towards WI than the NZ series. But it doesnt take anything away from BD win.

Zap_Brannigan Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 BD and its fans are really Pak 2.0. One win and they are the best in the world, One loss and they become the worst.
DaFan Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 BD and its fans are really Pak 2.0.
