I am with Ultimate_Game here. This match did not inspire a lot of confidence. Munaf Patel really look like a shot duck to me. Just one good game in SA and he is WC. On these pitches, he has nothing to offer. If Nehra in current avatar is automatic pick then we are in trouble. To say bowling looks bad would be an understatement.

I won't say it was a good victory. In fact it hasn't solved even one concern that we had since the SA ODI series which was played in different conditions and we thought that that many things, like form of Raina, will be back on track the moment he'll be back on Indian tracks after a bit of rest. But I'm afraid, he look as clueless against pace bowling as he had looked in SA and surface didn't have to do much to it. Then form of Dhoni, and Yuvraj was as bad as it was earlier and there was no improvement whatsoever. Add to it, the scratchiness of Gambhir, strange running between the wicket of Sehwag and somewhat different approach from Yusuf...and the entire batting line looked out of sorts and we kept on reading that batting was India strength in this WC!!! Sreesanth, who keep on blowing hot and cold? And people said India was favorite on the basis on this kind of batting and bowling? And let us not talk about the fielding at all!!

I didn't see this game, so I'm saying this based on hearsay. Its quite obvious by now that Australia are quite infective when it comes to playing spin. I would prefer if we had a warm up game against a side that can play spin well, like SL or Pakistan. Defending a 214 in those games on even a very spin friendly pitch might not be always possible. We would learn something from such a friendly. We didn't learn anything that we already didn't know from the Aus friendly.

Wonder what the reactions would have been had we lost this warm up match. People are writing off the team and questioning the abilities of this team to do well in the WC despite beating the number 1 team in the world (playing at full strength). Had we lost I would assume there would have been demands to change the captain before the WC starts and throw out a few others. Yes there are concern areas, but why look at negatives alone. There were a number of positives especially Sehwag's batting after a comeback, Yusuf showing some maturity again, fightback by the lower order, bowling of Chawla and most importantly Bhajji's Spell and Dhoni's captaincy. Batting will take care of itself, pacers will be hot and cold, but if Bhajji's bowling and Dhoni's captaincy is anywhere near what we saw in the warm up, we are in with a huge shout.

nice post. ppl on this forum and indian ppl in general, often miss the forest for the trees. india needs to win every match by 9 wickets/100+ runs, with batsmen making huge runs, bowlers taking lots of wickets and fielders making nice stops on the camera. anything less and there will be criticism...:haha: regardless of the problems india has right now, team spirit is excellent, body language is always positive and the more close wins they pull off from difficult situations, they more confident they will be in their ability to win matches in any given scenario. whenever i watch an india match these days, i always think they will do whatever it takes to win and eventually pull it off. doesnt matter if they are defending 214 when the opposition is 114/2, or if they chasing 314 with 5 wickets down and RRR is over 8. that belief makes a big difference
