Virat Kohli as third seamer

With spin bowlers set to play a big role in this tournament, why cant we consider taking just 2 seamers and two spinners into all games. If one of the seamers have a bad day, cant ew use virat kohli to fill in a few overs during the powerplays? Did this thought cross anyone's mind here?

Nothing special. Way too risky An over here or there in the warm-ups would have been handy if they were to do that, but doesn't seem part of the plans I don't know if I heard correctly on commentary, but I think someone said Virat may have to be the back up keeper, should something happen to MSD Have Virat ever kept or did they decide that because he's a brilliant fielder?

i have seen him bowl in some of the IPL matches for RCB. He looked ok. He can probably g for 10-20 runs more than a munaf or sreesanth. but it will help the team to go in with 2 spinners. he can just bowl a max of 4 overs, when the situation is not so risky. i f managed well, i think its a risky, but rewarding option

look at the way our first choice bowlers are bowling in this match to the tail enders. virat may not do worse than this though. in 003 WC we used rahul dravid as wicket keeper, with great success. he did drop a few catches here and there and conecde a number of byes. but t gave the team the required balance. i'm not even saying lets go with zak and 3 spinners with virat filling 2nd seamer role. he can be used only if the 2nd seamer bowls ****.

Today I heard some commentator saying that if (God forbid) Dhoni is injured then Kohli wil be reserve keeper :hmmm:
Yeh I heard that too, wasn't quite sure if I had heard right :haha:

Yeh I heard that too' date=' wasn't quite sure if I had heard right :haha:[/quote'] When the world cup team was selected the reason for replacement wk-keeper non-selection was that since the tourney is in India, there wouldn't be any problem (such as visa issues) getting a replacement (most probably Parthiv Patel). I thought the team management had asked Patel to shadow the Indian team in case of such an eventuality and that's why Parthiv was sent to SA as a replacement batsman.

No harm in give couple of overs to see how it goes. Dhoni can come up to the wicket. Always good to have few options up the sleeve. You never know. Otherwise the Indian bowling is pretty predictable. Teams know very well to blast the tundlers like Nehra and Munna in first 10 overs to get the right momentum. Although I must point out that it was pleasing to see Nehra bowling yorkers during the death overs.

Kohli is like Ravi Bopara (maybe even a shorter run up and less speed).... If you fancy Bopara then you can try Kohli out. On the flatter tracks, he may be a sitting duck. It's a gamble for sure.
