On a flat pitch, 2 seamers + Bhajji + 2nd spinner + part timers < 3 seamers + Bhajji + part-timers or 3 seamers + 2 spinners + part timers Actually no, you're wrong. England played 3 seamers (two of them better than Munaf) and Swann (better than Bhajji) plus a part timer like Yardy and they STILL gave away the same amount of runs.
zen Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Two of the best swing bowlers in the world in Anderson and Zaheer couldn't get the ball to swing and you think Sree is going to swing the ball nicely? :hysterical: Seriously through, Sreesanth sucks like Anderson in ODI cricket when there is no lateral movement. At least Nehra has the left arm angle that troubles batsmen, but his form is crap at the moment because of injury issues. From what I rememebr, Anderson had Sehwag in all sorts of trouble early on .... And against BD, Sree was probably the only one getting the ball to talk nicley :winky: Since Nehra form is crap, and because Sree is swinging the ball nicely at the moment (even though you don't think he is for some reason), he plays as the 3rd seamer :--D

With four bowlers playing for Eng, Ind probably would have got 360+ :winky:

Based on his ER against BD, I guess, you can even conclude that he would have given even more runs against Eng, who would have won in the 45th over .... If you take that expensive over out, he went for approx. 30 in 4 overs. Not bad for a swing bowler, who in fact was having an off-day
The Outsider Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Shwetabh, Are you really saying that you are happy with Chawla's bowling, barring his final over? You have no problem with his inconsistency, one poor ball every over, sometimes even more, and bowling generally too short? Out of the 60 deliveries only 6 to 9 could be called good deliveries. To be honest, I was really really disappointed by Chawla yesterday. Some were saying that he was too nervous . But whatever..he was terrible and I can't find myself defending him at all! It was his second major ODI after almost 3 years. The pitch was completely flat and a wrist spinner is going to show a little bit of inconsistency always. However, in his first spell around the time he got Trott he looked very impressive. I think India should persist with him. With more practice he'll gather more accuracy and can turn out to be big player for us in the later stages of the tournament.

I don't know about you but I don't slelect teams based on worst case scenarios. If I am picking someone like Sree, it is for picking up wkts, which implies that I am ready to give a few runs in the process. And if the risk doesn't come off, I have options. Per you, if someone like Sree is doing badly in every other game, then he is doing well in every other game too. Which is why picking him up, w/ the back up options that we have is not a bad idea :winky: It's par for the course with Sreesanth. I've already posted how he regularly gets hammered for 7-10+ RPO, but you seem to be in a trance of his mythical wicket taking skills. Tell me if he is such a wicket taker why is he averaging close to 40 over the last year? The point on Yuvi/Pathan bowling the 49th over was that you are willing to ulilize them in cruch situations. And not utilizing them equals that they are better than the 2nd spinner automatically. They are in the team so that the captain can utilize them, other wise we would pick a regular bowler, no? Personally, I wouldn't put myself into a position where I have to bowl a spinner in the 49th over in the first place :P I am sorry, but I have no idea what you are trying to say here.
