Mariyam Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 We remember every world cup for not just the cricketing action, but even the off field antics, funny comments, celebrations and foot in mouth statements by players & coaches. This thread is a compilation of all such moments for the 2011 ICC WC. Add anything that you find funny, odd or out of place in this WC. Here is what I think stood out so far, for completely the wrong reasons, 1) Ashraful's dance after dismissing Irish batsmen. GfPIPedD1OQ He outdid Jeetendra at the Jeetendra jumping jack dance. 2) Marketing strategy of the year: Amul are the sponsors of the Dutch team I get it now, most Dutch people are glued to their television sets watching the WC and will end up buying Amul products. 3) Retarded format: Which moron has made this format? Which bozo approved of it? We had two matches on Friday and will have two tomorrow ( Monday) but only one game each on Saturday and a Sunday. And this repeats again after 2 weeks. :whack::wall: 4) Athar Ali Khan's comment thats a contender for the hyperbole of the year award " This is the best day of my life. This is the best day for Bangladesh. I'm so ecstatic that I'm at a loss for words" After hearing this you might think that Bangladesh have won the ICC WC, the football WC and a few noble prizes on the same day. In reality, he said this after Bangladesh beat cricket superpower Ireland. 5) Bangalore public going namma namma every time KP hit a chouka holding up the 4 placards and dancing. Whats up with that? Ultimate confusion? 6) Nikhil Chopra and Vivek's Hindi commentary. You just can't get cheesier and cornier than this; " Sachin England ke bowlers ke saath khel nahi raha hain, khilwad kar rahe hain" repeat 10x " England ke coach ka naam Flower zaroor hai, lekin abhi ye murjhaye hue phool lag rahe hain" " Ian Bell, jaise unka naam hai, unhone ghanti baja di hai" " Ian Bell ne khatre ki ghanti baja di" after Bell hit a 4. " Indian team ek runno ka rath hai aur Sachin is team ke rathi hain aur Virat aur Sehwag ghode" SPCA should object to this.
Shane Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 lol Good ones Mariyam, the Hindi commentators are really awful.
The Outsider Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Good ones! I can never get over a gem from Ravi Chaturvedi from the '87 WC game between India and NZ. The situation was that Kapil started taking the attack to NZ and pretty soon More also started hitting boundaries - IIRC they put on around 70-80 in the last 7-8 overs. When More started hitting (till then not really known for his unorthodox shots), Chaturvedi sahab said, "Bade miyaan to bade miyaan, chhote miyaan subhan allah".
coffee_rules Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 They could have just let WI and BD play out a series of 3 ODIs and selected the 4th team that goes to QFs from this group. The other group has Kenya and Zim, so they are ruled out to make it to QFs.
Mariyam Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Saw just half an hour of the West Indies vs The Netherlands game. The Hindi commentators came up with some real gems today: When Suleiman Benn took his first wicket, one of the commentators started singing " Suleiman Benn gaya gentleman, Suleiman Benn gaya gentleman" . Corny lame joke, if I ever saw one. And he kept repeating it ad nauseam. Enter Ryan Ten Doeschate. I am no authority on pronunciation of Dutch names, but I'm not sure it is pronounced the way Nikhil Chopra says its. Dus Khata. Dus as in the number 10 Khata as in account (In Hindi) He kept saying ten dus khata yeh, ten dus khata woh and got so confused that he eventually ended up saying "dus ten khata aaj apne shots nahi khel pa rahe hain". And he kept repeating dus ten khata till he was cut by the other commentator. :D They guys are hilarious. Mind you this was just in 30 mins of the game. If you listen to them for an entire game, you could make the longest thread in ICF history. I'm going to watch games with Hindi commentary only. :P

maaki Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Having to watch games using internet streams i get no choice on which stream is working.. Having to sit through the hindi commentary is awful. Half the time they mix hindi and english, which defeats the point of having hindi commentary. I think these guys must have paid a lot of bribes to get a cushy government job... The worst part is the telecast feed is from the other broadcasting sources like star plus and keeps showing the english commentators in between.. The hindi commentators are forced to say sahmefully aur yeh hai hamare angreji commentators.
ganeshran Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Haha epic post.. :hysterical::hysterical:
Aaku Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Yaaaa hindi commentary is reaaaaaaaalllyy awesome ! :hehe: Maninder:hail:
Mariyam Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Ireland beating England was an entire collection of crazy WC moments. :P Who would have thought that an Irishman would hit the fastest ever WC hundred. :hatsoff: Kevin O'Brien becomes the only person with pink hair to score a century in a WC. :omg: Anyone understood what the Irish captain said in the post match interview??? I didn't know German is spoken in Ireland. Can someone post a video of those comments please.
Zero_Unit Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 2007 had Trent Jhonson doing the chicken dance ... Now that was memorable!
Zap_Brannigan Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Amul sponsoring Dutch was for Indian eyes. Do you really think that they sell Hero hondas in SA,UK, Aus,SL and WI?

I like to listen to madan lal, kapil paaji, zaheer abbas, kirti azad n yashpal sharma too whenever they are on.
Holysmoke Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Bumble talking about Ireland on live commentary during the game.. "Associate team eh? Up yours England!" :hehe:
vamos_rafa Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Amul is a very hit product in the Netherlands. One of the top milk brands there. That is the reason why it is associated with the team.

I saw it on SportsCenter.
Mariyam Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 This is the presentation ceremony after the Ireland vs England game. Ek laakh ICF $ from me to anyone who can spell out what exactly the Irish captain said. mhEZ6vgpShQ
Mariyam Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Today, after the Pakistan vs Canada game, Wasim Akram caught hold of Younis Khan and asked him a few questions, finally leading to the following.. Wasim: Do you think that 184 is a good score against Canada? Younis: I think it is enough against Canada. :P lol. :D I know he didn't mean any disrespect, but it sounded really funny when he said it.
zaheer Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 This is the presentation ceremony after the Ireland vs England game. Ek laakh ICF $ from me to anyone who can spell out what exactly the Irish captain said. mhEZ6vgpShQ "It has been the greatest day of our lives, the best performance that we have put up," he says. "We believed in ourselves, Kevin O'Brien was brilliant. We knew that we are capable of winning, we believed in ourselves. Cusack and Mooney too chipped in and credit to the lads for their effort. We have still got four games left, hoping to repeat such performances and stay in the race." BTW this was taken from cricinfo commentary!! :--D
Mariyam Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 ^^^ No cheating. :orderorder: And he spoke so much more. I heard 'achtung' and something else in German also. Looks like you copy pasted the wrong thing. :P
