fineleg Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Nehra - so he can be warmed up for SA (and also to see if he has rhythm back or not) Replace either Munaf or give rest for Zaheer to keep him fresh for bunny Graeme Smith :giggle: Raina - if at all he is required to replace anyone in 11 during later stages due to unforseen circumstances, let him get match practice and get some time in the ODI. Let Gambhir and Yuvi play against Netherlands to get more time in the middle. For Netherlands, maybe Raina can replace Tendulkar or Kohli - one can be given rest, and they can come back for SA match. Ashwin: Obvious. Get him for Perennially Clueless Possibly (or maybe not) - Sreesanth can be given a go against the Dutch. Most likely he'll just carry drinks.
fineleg Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 Poal! :D Which reserve players need to be given some 'match practice'? Multiple choices allowed in poal! This is the last opportunity for reserve players in the 15-member squad for match practice? (unless we beat SA, and then maybe WI can be one more opportunity for such experiment)
zen Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Voted of all 4 as this is probably the best game to try out the reserves, esp. since this is a long tourney my X1 for the game against Ned: - Sehwag - GG - Kohli - Raina - YP - Yuvi - Dhoni - Ashwin - Munaf - Sree - Nehra 12th man: Chawla Rest: Sachin, Zak and Bhajji If we had a reserve wk in place of Chawla, I would have rested Dhoni too
Ultimate_Game Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I say get them all in and defintely rest Zaheer. I am worried he might break down before the knockouts. Let's play him against SA and if we win that game then rest him for Windies game as well. He should be fully fit and raring to go for the knockouts. Ashwin has to be a shoe-in to get into the first XI from now on. Also Pathan should be promoted up the order as well to get some batting practice and play Sreesanth & Nehra in place of Zaheer & Munaf. Sreesnath at least looked dangerous against Bangbros and was unlucky not to get a wkt or two as the edges flew to boundary before he lost the plot in his final over where he conceded 24. Let's see if he has improved.

Zaheer Khan is an injury waiting to happen. Rest him for Netherlands, and if we can be assured of quarter-finals before WI, then rest ZK for that WI match too. ZK is the ONLY wicket taker among all our bowlers! We lose him, we can say byebye :scooter: to the WC chances! Also Pathan should be promoted up the order as well to get some batting practice and play Yes promote Yusuf Pathan and maybe even Raina to give them practice.
CSK Fan Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 If I am not worng, Nehra is still injured and is targetting to get fit by the SA game
fineleg Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 If I am not worng' date=' Nehra is still injured and is targetting to get fit by the SA game[/quote'] Hmmm...I thought he was ready now. Ok, lets say the poll is assuming he is fit for the Netherlands.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 i can only see 1 change happening - zaheer rested for nehra. even that is doubtful, because zaheer likes match practice to maintain form. india will be unchanged. ashwin should definitely come in for chawla, but i somehow get the feeling that they will use chawla throughout the group stages
yoda Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I can't believe a guy like Raina has to warm the benches, but I don't see a spot for him given that it is between him and Kohli now. Definitely Ashwin in for the Clueless Chawla. Resting Zak against Netherlands isn't a bad idea given that he is pretty much our only specialist bowler now. LOl!

True! :(( I can't believe a guy like Raina has to warm the benches Some months ago who'd have thunk!!! Raina warming bench!
Ultimate_Game Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 If I am not worng' date=' Nehra is still injured and is targetting to get fit by the SA game[/quote'] First we have ppl who are injured like Nehra and then we have folks like Sreesanth and Chawla who shouldn't be in the squad in the first place. I don't envy Dhoni at all. I mean just think about what Dhoni must be going through just before finalizing the playing XI... 1. Make sure Zaheer is fit and can bowl at 70-80 % 2. Make sure Sehwag hasn't aggravated his shoulder injury 3. Check that Tendulkar has recovered from his "niggle" 4. Get the status of Nehra's injury and whether he can show up in the team balcony 5. Check to see that Sreesanth is still ok mentally and hasn't flipped out and thrown a tantrum 6. Call up Srinivasan to see if Ashwin has apologized to him for kicking his dog and thus can be selected 7. Make sure Yuvraj doesn't finish off the buffet and complementary booze on the match day After going through the checklist select Chawla as he's the only fit player left after selecting the first 10 players :--D
daryl1985 Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Voted of all 4 as this is probably the best game to try out the reserves, esp. since this is a long tourney my X1 for the game against Ned: - Sehwag - GG - Kohli - Raina - YP - Yuvi - Dhoni - Ashwin - Munaf - Sree - Nehra 12th man: Chawla Rest: Sachin, Zak and Bhajji If we had a reserve wk in place of Chawla, I would have rested Dhoni too Would almost opt for the same XI but i would be tempted to rest Sehwag rather than Sachin as i feel he has the more serious injury.
pinkfreud Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 If I am not worng' date=' Nehra is still injured and is targetting to get fit by the SA game[/quote'] Lol. When will Nehra EVER overcome his injuries =/ @ OP: Good post. Even though we cannot afford to like Netherlands lightly, I definitely think Zak should be made to rest so that he can be around for the knockout matches against SA and WI. Judging by the way SA collapsed to Stuart Broad and James Anderson yesterday, I don't see why Zaheer can't be given some time out so that he can be well prepared against SA. Hmm, I don't know if Munaf should be dropped though. He's more economical than Nehra and he bowls a lovely line and length- he's far more accurate that way. Nehra has pace on his side though.. and yes, I would want to see Ashwin in the playing XI now. I've been endorsing him from the very beginning and the Netherlands match would be a good way to give him a platform to showcase his skills. Bhajji has been having an average tournament so far, and it's already so obvious that Dhoni is sh*t scared of dropping Piyush Chawla :cantstop: Harbhajan can be given some rest too then... and we can have yet another part time spinner in Raina. All in all, we still have a good backup team apart from Sreesanth lol. I don't know what's with that guy.. he needs a good spanking.
pinkfreud Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I don't understand Dhoni's obsession with Chawla. He keeps going on and on about how Piyush is the only leg spinner in our squad and how much variety he brings to the table.. but is that supposed to be some compromise for a good, economical bowler? Piyush can bat down the order, but so can Ashwin if it comes to that. Ashwin may be an offie but pressure doesn't get to him the way it gets to Chawla. Chawla keeps getting nervous at the drop of a hat and it clearly shows in his bowling in crunch situations. But for some reason Dhoni can't see that and he still refuses to give a game to Ashwin even against minnow nations =/
diegovegaz Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 chawla should be replaced by ashwin nehra might play since its his home ground sreesanth might not be useful on the slow low pitch, though i'd love to have him in the xi raina, would miss out, delhi boy kohli bhajji should be dropped, he's useless
vvvslaxman Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 good to see sreesanth last in the poll :hysterical:
ViruRulez Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I would not go on testing at such a crucial tournament. We do not need to keep on changing the team and testing out reserves. Go with a constant team instead and play every match to win handsomely. Not only for this match but for the rest of the tournament, I would however opt: Ashwin for Chawla Nehra might be tried in place of Munaf (not fully sure he would be any better) I would have liked to include Raina but I cannot see any vacancy in batting to be frank. And there are already enough hitters in the team right now and so Kohli must be in the team. Nobody else can be replaced as of now.

We should always remember it is not necessarily 10 deliveries required to take wickets for the oppositions. 10 mistakes from our batsmen can also do the same.
