a leg spinner is generally regarded more penetrative than offspinner. a off spinner would be option #2. not #1 as for ashwin, being an "allrounder", he won't do much better than agarkar.he can bat a bit..that's it.

But a leg spinner who sprays the ball everywhere is useless. Chawla can turn, but he is just not good enough to get a consistent line and length, something that is of utmost importance in cricket.

Dhoni has made a lot of horrible decisions throughout his career as captain but sometimes they do work out or sometimes others carry the passengers to win. Dhoni won IPL and CL after making some piss poor decisions at the start of the tournament. We won the T20 WC with Joginder sharma. But we also lost against Aus when Sachin made 175 thanks to jadeja. Basically, it could go either way but Chawla being in the team will only be a detriment to the side and others have to carry him.
