I would go for Sreesanth. If Chawla can be given so many chances to build his "confidence" surely Sreesanth deserves at least one chance as well. At least Sree has proven in the past he can pick wkts whereas Chawla had never done anything to justify the faith. But we really are missing Praveen Kumar a lot with his ability to bowl tightly with the new ball and swing the ball in any condition. He always used to get a wkt or two as well in his opening spell.

He used to do that regularly in most of the games I watched. In fact CB Series we won in Aus was coz of the early wkts PK used to take. In odis he was pretty good up-front though not a good death bowler owing to lack of pace.

Sehwag fit to play against West Indies More... Sehwag fit to play against West Indies March 17, 2011 A major concern for the Indian team was averted when Virender Sehwag was declared fit to play in the final Group B game against West Indies in Chennai on Sunday. The opener had suffered a knee injury during the match against South Africa in Nagpur on Saturday and had rushed to Mumbai to get it examined giving rise to speculations as regards his participation in the crucial game. The fact that he didn't take part in the team's practice sessions in the last two days further fuelled the speculations. However, on Thursday the board confirmed that Sehwag would indeed be playing India's final group game. "Sehwag will play on Sunday," said BCCI president-elect N Srinivasan. "The issue was not particularly serious and so the board didn't come out with a statement earlier," he added. It is imperative here to mention that the swollen knee was Sehwag's third injury in this tournament. The 33-year-old had hurt his left thigh during the tournament opener against Bangladesh in Mirpur. It is to his credit that Sehwag continued to bat, albeit with a runner, and went on to post a memorable 175 thereby helping India to a comprehensive win. The opener had also been hit in the rib cage during the practice ahead of India's game against England in Bangalore and had to be rushed to Delhi to consult to his doctor soon after the said match. Prior to the World Cup too, Sehwag had to return home midway through India's tour of South Africa with a shoulder injury. However, his being fit to play against West Indies is good news for a team still reeling from the effects of that defeat against South Africa.

I still have a lot of hope in this team and think we are much better then what we have shown. The main problem with the team has been the selection of our playing eleven. I can understand if you persist with someone in a meaningless ODI series but in a world cup there is no place for it. If someone is not up to par (Chawla, Nehra) get them OUT of the playing eleven, period. Even our batting order is being shuffled for no reasons in particular. Not only this nonsensical move failed, it is also unfair to the players involved. Pathan is being forced to play in a situation where he is not comfortable (# 3, 4) and Kohli who was one our best batsman in SA is being pushed to number 7 and is expected to slog. Absolutely mind boggling by "captain cool" and the crew. I just hope these guys sort this out ASAP or else Dhoni has to be stripped of ODI captaincy.

What's with Sehwag? Before the world cup he went to Eng for his shoulder, before the SA game he went to Delhi to be examined by an expert there, and now before WI game he went to Mumbai to be examined by another specialist? WTF is going on? How can anyone be so f***in unfit and injury prone? I say let's not risk Sehwag in the WI game. Get Gambhir to open, promote Kohli to no. 3 spot and get Raina into the team. Sehwag would be crucial in the knockouts and there's no major gap between games after the group stages. I say let him rest and save him for the knockouts. Why risk aggravating the injury for the windies game?

I hope there's not Groupism' date=' Favoritism in the team selections..Team selection should be purely on merits and situational requirements and [b']should be free from pre-concieved and egoistic prejudices..
That train left when Sehwag quite stupidly called out Sreesanth in that manner. Whether Sreesanth deserves it or not, I am pretty positive he'll never come back to the squad during this WC.

I think so too. He's very volatile but on a good day, this is how he bowls: iwP8VexfhYQ It's unfair to chuck him out based on a terrible game while others get so many chances. If Nehra can be cherry picked on the basis of past accolades, then why not SS? That said, if SS is brought back and does badly again, it will be more to do with shattered confidence and low self esteem, much of which will be our captain's doing.
It must be frustrating for Sree to see bowlers with half his ability to bowl the kind of balls he can bowl being picked ahead of him .... He is a very good test match bowler but he deserves a few more games in this WC .... I am afraid that with the general ER focused mentality that many Indians have even the likes of Akthar would struggle to go past line and length bowlers line Munaf and company .... And then we have it in us to complain why we don't produce too many good fast bowlers :giggle:

+++ Line and Length mentality..One of the main reasons why India doesn't has will not get long term fast bowlers..This smartass mentality has come from years and years of winning matches (Test and ODIs) with the help of Maharathi batsmen and mediocre trundlers. Once they retire, I'm pretty sure Indians will ditch the 'Line & Length' talk. The present top ranking is not sustainable once the Maharathis move away from the scene. All the talk of top ranking having the 'Line & Length' bowlers will vanish in thin air..
