India vs Australia QF : Pre-match talk

Recommended Posts

seeing how he bowled overrall' date=' has hardly picked wickts against good teams, I think he will be dropped and they might bring another pacer or even try David Hussey.[/quote'] its really a mystery as to why they have dropped david hussey.he bowled quite well against the poms in australia and we know he can be real good at the death in india.

Aswhin bowled better in the PP than any our pacers in all of our WC matches' date='thats a fact. Its another matter that the rest of the bowlers were bowling utter tripe for most of the match.Haddin and twatson are not good players of spin and we all know ponting's prowess against good spin bowling. Its a sound tactic and will work if executed properly with disciplined bowling.[/quote'] As I said bowling Ashwin first up would depend upon what bowling combination Ind would have for the game, which in turn depends upon the surface :winky:

Ojha was sidelined because Srikanth wanted to promote Ashwin in the ODI side as the second off spinner. Soon he will play in tests too. Nothing against Ashwin but you can clearly see he is a defensive bowler and not much of a wicket taker. He has variations but they are mostly to stop runs and clever batsmen will get used to it pretty quickly. If the wicket is flat, he will go for runs. Ojha is economical too. He bowled on flat wickets in Hyderabad in IPL where sides scored 200 in 20 overs and gave less than 6 runs an over and was the highest wicket taker in the tournament. What more can you ask for ?

Absolutely wrong. ODI: Ashwin has 16 wickets from 8 matches at an average of 22.87. Ojha has 20 wickets from 16 matches at an average of 30.05. Who is the wicket taking bowler here? Actually Ojha has a better economy than Ashwin. So only the reverse of what you are saying is true. IPL: Ashwin has 28 wickets from 20 matches at an average of 18.39 Ojha has 24 wickets from 18 matches at an average of 19.41 Who is the wicket taking bowler here? PS: 1. Ojha should have been selected too, but in the place of the undeserving leggie Chawla. 2. What you remember from your top of your mind may not be the truth. 3. Everything need not be Srikkanth's(or any other selector's) fault.

I think we can win against Aus. My team for the big match 1. Sachin 2. Viru 3. gambhir 4. Yuvi (Bowl) 5. Dhoni 6. Raina (Bowl) 7. Pathan (Bowl) 8. Bajji (Bowl) 9. Ashwin (Bowl) 10. Zak (Bowl) 11. Munaf (Bowl) I strongly believe that Gambhir and Kohli both are no 3 batsmen and using them anywhere below 3 would be an absolute waste. Hence Kohli will have to sit out for no fault of his. The above combination gives us 2 seam bowlers, 2 specialist spinners and 3 part timers of which one part timer is bowling much much better than our specialist spinner:hysterical: If we were to lose a couple of quick wickets then Dhoni needs to walk in at no 4 and stabilize the innings. My gut feeling is that the top 3 will bat out atleast 30 overs and the no 4 batsman will get a chance past the 30 over mark which means Yuvi, given his current form is the best option at no 4. Kohli at 4 is a total waste unless he walks in within the first 15 or 20 overs which I don't think will happen. We need Yuvi and Dhoni to stabilize if required and go for the kill with Raina and Pathan to add their firepower. Note that with bajji, ashwin and zak, Kohli's absence will be dimished as everyone except Munaf have the capability to tap the ball around and chip in at the end. Raina and Yusuf will come in handy if we are chasing as well. Also with the above combination we will have enough variation in bowling and if sehwag can roll his arm that will be awesome. I really think India can and will win this game.:bhangra: Go India go:two_thumbs_up:

Only way we are going to win this match is to hit the aussies with spin Ashwin should open the bowling with Zak Yuvi will have a big role to play I expect the dart thrower to atleast keep it tight this match. Cant expect wickets from him Raina to bowl atleast 5 overs.

If anything Gambhir and Raina's positions look doubtful because they are both not good against short pitch bowling. Gambhir struggled the other day against bouncers from Ravi Rampaul and lost his concentration and got out. He will be treated to a barrage of short deliveries from Lee, Tait and Johnson even if the pitch doesnt have bounce in it. Same for Raina. Its absurd to even consider dropping Kohli because he looked the most comfortable among the batsmen in the ODI series in SA against Steyn, Morkel and co. Even Pathan looked quite decent in that series. I think Raina will probably sit out of the 11.

I hope not... We need Raina at no 6 or 7 to win against Aussies...I have no doubt the top 3 will battle out 30 overs...I have a feeling that Kohli will be wasted if he bats at 4. To me Kohli is a very good batsman but he'll have to wait...Sachin retires...gambhir opens and Kohli gets his no 3 slot...thats where he is at his best. I strongly believe that we need 2 specialist spinners and 2 seam bowlers..donno why but I have a feeling sreesanth might be a better option than munna...but he's in Dhoni's hit list...so might not get a chance. Either ways we are winning :icflove:

Yup, we will win. I want India to beat Pak so badly when they meet in the SFs.

opening with Ashwin will be stupid.both Watson n Haddin play spin well n with offspin it will be easy for them to clear the infield. I'm not sure playing 2 offies+Yusuf/Raina against Aus is good idea.all thier bats except Hussey are right handed batsmen.will be easier to play offies Chawla did well against them in warmups but dont think Dhoni will take that big a risk.or will he? as for strategy, all this thing of spinners, home pitch, reverse swing will come to nought.it will be down to nerves.Aus will play it like any other game n play thier natural game, been there, done that.but India will be playing tentatively under pressure of expectations n wont be able to play thier natural game IMO

Half this side is playing its first World Cup. The others, though they have great experiences of the World Cup, are under pressure because of form - e.g. Ponting, who may be a three time World Cup winner but is in the worst form of his life and will likely have his ODI career ended if he loses on Thursday. Point is, while India will be nervous, the Aussies aren't the streamrollering champion side of the past either.

Ponting,Watson,Clarke,Hussey,Lee,Tait are part of WC winning teams.these are anyway the cream of the team, the team performance will depend on them.they know how to play knockouts n win them.how to apply pressure n maintain it Aussies wont be nervous as India.they know how to win.I remember how in 2003 finals our nervousness beat us rather than Australia.. our only chance is if we bat first, put up a big total n defend it.if they bat first, its all over,if we bat first n lose early wickets,it will be difficult too.

Haddin especially plays spin well, uses his his feet well,n Watson has slogged Swann many times in ODI series down under.
