When Australia, England and South Africa lose, its the poor pitches in the sub continent to be blamed but when sub continent teams go there and struggle in their conditions we are just not good enough to play on their pitches. Theoretically yes, if the conditions are equal for both teams throughout the game. But if they are 'tailored' to help one team in particular then it doesn't make much sense to me in a KO game in a marque tourney. I believe that conditions should be fair or sporting enough that there is something in it for just about everyone Moving forward, theoretically, I don't want an absolutely flat surface nor a turner or a green surface. But a surface that has enough it it for just abt everyone :nice: .... Practically, it may not possible to have completely fair conditions (due to various reasons), but at least try to make it as fair as possible Personally, I like to play in conditions that favor the other team and beat the crap out of that team in that condition. That's domination for me. Next thing, I would prefer is sporting conditions. The last thing I would prefer is conditions helping me the most because there is not much challenge in that

In seaming conditions, Bopara would do well, In spinning tracks Dilshan would do well, In flat roads all the bowlers would get hammered. There is no clear solution. And talking about part timers like Yuvraj, hafeez taking wickets, it clearly shows the inability of other teams to handle spin. World cup is in sub continent, Other teams hsould have prepared according to that. If they were expecting tracks which will help their fast bowlers, then they were fools.

I agree but I am using the term pitch as a metaphor for playing conditions (both pitch and conditions or whatever). When implied for conditions, the conclusion would be to play day games to make it a bit more fair than playing D/N I could understand BD making pitches (metaphor) where toss plays a vital role but not for teams like Ind or SL. Let's take SL vs NZ for example. With conditions being fair, you would expect SL to beat NZ a bit more easily but at Premdasa, you can't be that sure because you know toss plays a role there. Even though the conditions are suppose to help SL more, they give NZ more chance then it would otherwise have had too. Irrespective of the home advantage, I like conditions to be fair anyways. I hope in future we get to see fair conditions in high marque value tourneys irrespective of where it is being played :nice:

However, for the year and a half running into the World Cup, they stopped playing here. As they renovated the stands, they also tried to figure out what they could do to address that imbalance. They realised that because the ground is in a low-lying area, the moisture comes up in the evenings and assists seam movement. So they raised the square by three-and-a-half feet, and also installed new, improved floodlights. Hosting a World Cup is a matter of prestige, and nobody would have wanted two unfair knockout matches in Sri Lanka.

I must say that's a good start but I guess playing a day game would make it even more even Even though SL managed to get 230 easily, I felt that a slightly more focused and smart fielding and bowling effort could have given SL a run for its money. Watching the teams bat 2nd makes you feel that it is easy for them to lose 4-5 wkts for 50 runs. Guys who get themselves in have to finish the job. At Premdesa, batting 2nd you feel that a team could get into trouble if the set batsman leaves the job for someone else to finish
