I understand the need for home advantage so the pitches, whether dry or w/ grass, being prepared to help the home team but the advantage of having a sporting/fair pitch out weights the advantage given of a favorable pitch esp. if the home side is stronger Take SL for example, the pitch at Premdasa sucks. If the side winning the toss puts 220+, it's an uphill battle for the side batting 2nd. This makes the match more dependent on the toss and negates any advantage that a stronger side may have. Say if your team is good enough to beat the other team 6 out of 10 times, then why would you want to play on pitch that depends more upon toss, i.e. making the game 50:50! You cannot control the toss, but you can control your performances, and a stronger team will do well on a fair surface! Take 1996 for example, Ind was the victim of its own pitch and that too when we had won the toss (but took the wrong decision to field first). If it were a truer surface, Ind could have won that game! You never know. Same goes for venues like Durban. You can't play imp games there for D/N. In short, you only need pitch to play as per the home team's strength if the home team is weak. If not then the home team is making the games 50:50 by giving a 50% chance to the opponent, esp. if the winning the toss and doing the right things gives tremendous advantage. I hope that at Mohali and Mumbai, we have a fair pitch. Of al the semifinalists, i.e. Ind, Pak, NZ and SL/Eng, Ind is the strongest team. If the pitches are fair, it will be tough to beat us. One way we can lose, if we play on surfaces where winning the toss gives tremendous advantage wrt surface/dew. PS the title should be "You should always make fair pitches for KO games" (I am making a lot of typos these days )

I can guarentee that people won't be tinkering with the pitch at all for the upcoming clash. This paki bowling line-up has nothing about it. I mean even Zaheer has performed better than Gul. And the lesser said regarding how AFridi performs against us the better. So all in all I doubt we will see anything other than a normal pitch at Mohali on wednesday.

Your thread title is talking about Knock Out matches - are you talking about some Toronto league Knock Out matches if not these QFs? Anyway the conditions at Durban/Premadasa are dictated by the day night effect and not the pitch. If you play a day game on the same pitch, you'll get different results.

The pitch at premdasa today is as good as it was before in past few series. English bowlers were unlucky in the start and th is would have been like 150-4 rite now had tremlett gotten some wickets first up. Just that lankan openers had some luck and than they made the english bowlers pay for changing their line

I am talking abt the general strategy in KOs where a fair pitch/condition would be more useful if the home team is strong. Because if the pitch/conditions is/are something where winning the toss (batting first/2nd) gives a team tremendous advantage then it makes the game 50:50 (the chance a team has of winning the toss). As I said, if the home team is good enough to win 6 out of 10 times (60%), why play on pitches/conditions that make the game 50:50? Based on that, I am hoping that the pitch/conditions at Mohali and Mumbai would be fair so that teams don't lose much whether they have to bat first or 2nd. Which is why the pitches/conditions in KOs should be fair :winky: Is there anything to disagree?

Yeah, the fact that the kind of disparities you are talking about at Premadasa and Durban have nothing to do with the pitch, but with day/night conditions. So, pitch preparation is irrelevant for these situations.

When implied for conditions, the conclusion would be to play day games to make it a bit more fair than playing D/N I could understand BD making pitches (metaphor) where toss plays a vital role but not for teams like Ind or SL. Let's take SL vs NZ for example. With conditions being fair, you would expect SL to beat NZ a bit more easily but at Premdasa, you can't be that sure because you know toss plays a role there. Even though the conditions are suppose to help SL more, they give NZ more chance then it would otherwise have had too. Irrespective of the home advantage, I like conditions to be fair anyways. I hope in future we get to see fair conditions in high marque value tourneys irrespective of where it is being played :nice:

This is not about Pakistan only. I want asian blood on pitch in 2015 WC. Seeing part timers like Yuvi,Hafeez & Dilshan getting loads of wickets is mockery of WC. :weights:
