vvvslaxman Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Having watched all 5 world cup matches between India vs Pakistan.. i couldn't help reliving those matches... 1) 1992, at SCG HIghlights Jadeja's cool innings. He was smiling all through the innings. Sachin/Kapil partnership Kapil's effortless six against Mustaq over deep extra cover.. what a shot !! Akram's brilliant bowling & fielding against Kiran more. Brilliant yorker floored More. Sachin kept running. More was late to get up and run. But Akram in one motion went down the pitch and picked the ball and ran him out. Miandad's monkey jumping :cantstop: Match turning Cheeka's catch of Tendulkar's bowling Horrendous mix up between Imran and Miandad TURNING POINT: SOHAIL's WICKET 2) 1996, Bangalore Highlights Sidhu's innings Jadeja's late order assault along with our tail on Waqar Sohail/prasad spat At ur rahman's mental breakdown in the middle Miandad's horrible innings and run out. Latif's late order flourish. 2 stunning sixes included TURNING POINT: SOHAIL's WICKET 3) 1999, Old trafford Highlights Lot of hype was there before. Akhtar vs Sachin contest. But India was steady right through rather than any magical moment. Bangalore boys stole the show with bowling. Srinath, Prasad, Kumble. sharing all 10 wickets. After initial start by Anwar.. they were never in the game. But Akram made an insulting remark that it was a practice game TURNING POINT: Not sure what could be...as India steadily took wickets from the outset. 4) 2003, Centurion Highlights Sachin, Sachin, Sachin !! Answar's composed innings. TURNING POINT: Sachin going after Akhtar early. Pakistan never recovered 5) 2011, Mohali Highlights Sachin's innings 4 dropped catches Taufel's great match Wahab's bowling Viru's onslaught on Gul India's bowling unit Misba's slow innings TURNING POINT: Hafeez's scoop?
satyam1729 Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 In 2011 Turning point was Afridi and Umar Akmal's wicket. Pakistan were pretty much in the game.
vvvslaxman Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 In 2011 Turning point was Afridi and Umar Akmal's wicket. Pakistan were pretty much in the game. Umar Akmal was actually struggling against Nehra. He had no clue . He just got some free runs against Yuvi's bad balls. Otherwise he was not really comfortable. He was an accident waiting to happen.

Zelig Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 1999 Watched with family. I guess that was the Kargil War time. EPIC celebrations and fervor at the end of the match, even though I was too young to know about war et all. 2003 Watched it at the theatres with my two bros. Hurled Tamil galis at Akthar n co. First inns. we were all sad n down, but second inns. boy o' boy..we came to lyf. One of the best match experiences of my lieftime. 2011 Watched it alone. Piss poor streams ..but a good experience following the match with core n shivo. core used to update me whenever a wicket falls, as my streams were falling back most of the times. :nice: I was almost in tears when Hafeez was going well..thankfully, we won. Will cherish the sight of a happy Sachin hugging everyone esp. Dhoni at the end of the match.
SachDan Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 TURNING POINT: Not sure what could be...as India steadily took wickets from the outset. Moin Khan's wicket. Pakis were in a good position to win the match..run a ball required with 5 wickets in hand and Aaloo at one end..then Moin played a cheeky 'sweep' off Prasad's bowling and it ended up in the safe hands of SRT at deep square leg. From there on Pakis never recovered.

Infact I watched the highlights of 1992,1996,1999,2003 WC the night before the Ind-Pak game. It was amazing to see the little masters interview after the 1992 game where he was selected as the MOM.

Asim Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 in 2003 turning point was Sachin's catch dropped by Razzaq...
satyam1729 Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 in 2003 turning point was Sachin's catch dropped by Razzaq... Catch was not dropped. Razzaq was standing at wrong place. Btw Anwar's catch was dropped by Dravid.
kabira Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 in 2003 turning point was Sachin's catch dropped by Razzaq... as if your guys can catch.
goose Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 2003 Two hours before the game started I bent down to pick something off the hotel carpet. Unfortunately, the Indian flagpole sticking up from underneath my own armpit ended up firmly in my right eye socket. I've never felt so much physical pain in my life and fully expected to be missing an eye for the rest of my life. Still, I soldiered on, looking more mangled than a bashed up Terminator, and took my front row seat at the Centurion ground, flag led aloft, crying myself hoarse with ecstacy. The eye hurt for a few weeks but that 98 lives forever ! http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=169284
Lurker Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 1992: Watched it at home as a teen. The environment those days used to be tense but hardly as vitriolic as it became later on. Kapil's all around performance would stand out, as it used to be in most matches in 80s and early 90s. Indian jersey was probably the best we have ever had. Also when Pakistan was in finals many Indians were supporting it over England back then. 1996: Watched it at my Engineering college hostel. There are quite a few write-ups for that game that you may want to read. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=2328&highlight=hostel 1999: Team was cr@p and not much of memory except for Ganguly-Dravid partnership against SL, Prasad's bowling against Pakistan and SRT lifting his bat and pointing it towards heaven as his Dad had passed away days back. 2003: Watched in a remote town in US surrounded by 30-40 odd folks. We arrived late and , thankfully, missed Anwar's innings. SRT was going nuts of course. Can remember Ramiz wanting SRT to be injured, Akram blasting Razzak after he missed the catch of SRT, Waqar using his guile to suggest he would bowl a fast outswinger to ganguly and setting him perfectly with one that came in, Yuvraj and Dravid taking India home..which frankly remains very understated..I thought that partnership was as vital as SRT's innings. 2011: Didnt care much to watch. Followed it online between bits and bobs of conference and meetings. Still woke up the next day feeling amazingly happy. A weird sense of joy that defies explanation or rationale. xxx
coffee_rules Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 In all matches except 2011, Indian team was weaker and Pakistan was expected to roll over Indian team. In 1992, India had been battered by an Aus series, Sharjah encounters, Pak was expected to walk over Indian team. In 1996, the same. The Ws and the As openers were expected to steam roll a weaker Indian team. In 1999, we had the Aus series debacle and after the test series and one days series loss in India to the same Pak team. Pak team was much stronger. In 2003 as well, Pak team was expected to beat India by a mile. Only in 2011, on paper Pak was a weaker team, but came from a strong group performance beating Australia and brushing aside WI.
vvvslaxman Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 For me 1999 world cup is always a blur.. may be coz i was new to US waiting to attend my first interview. With all the tension i didn't really quiet remember even though i saw.

He then bowled the one coming in and trapped him in front.
