Even with Laxman we've collapsed several times! I think we need to identify #3 bat as soon as possible because I can't see Rahul lasting more than a ear. But where can we test both Kohli and Pujara together and then decide who is capable for which spot? It can happen only if one of our big star don't play any of of the tests in the WO or Eng tour. As for bowlers, in tests we hardly have many options and due to the lack of planning of selectors, we've not even identified who can be our test bowlers. At the moment: 1.Zaheer 2.Ishant. 3Sree 4.? Maybe some swing bowlers for England: i)We'll see how Irfan comes back from injury and if he is of any use or not ii)RP Singh: If he has reduced weight or not or if he can swing it or not iii) Few of these youngsters, like Chahar or Aaron --are they of any use or not.

As India’s heroes briefly rest their tired bodies before swapping the now iconic blue jersey and donning their Indian Premier League (IPL) team colours, Pathan will hope to shake off a forgettable year as he readies to play his first game for Delhi Daredevils on Sunday. “It is time for me to justify my talent. These past two years have been difficult for me. Over the past 10 months I have been training to recover from injury so I hardly played any cricket. It’s been frustrating but the time away from the game has also made be more determined and hungry to get back to my best. I hope to find my form again over the next couple of months. I have worked hard and done everything I can to be in the best possible shape,” Pathan said on Monday. He last played a One-day International for India over two years ago and his last International appearance in the shortest format for India was during the 2009 World Twenty20. Over the past year, the training ground and gymnasium of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore has been Pathan’s second home. “I do watch the Indian team play whenever I can but most of the time it has been on television because I have spent a lot of time in Bangalore for my training and rehabilitation. I have not switched off from cricket like some players do during injury. Even though I have not been able to play the game, I still enjoy watching the team do well. The World Cup win was fantastic,” Pathan added. Watching Yuvraj Singh win four Man of the Match awards and also being declared he player of the tournament has been inspirational for Pathan. “Yuvi went through a tough year and came back stronger. His comeback after being dropped and because of injury is something I can take inspiration from. I always believed that if Yuvi finds his form than India would be favourties to win the World Cup,” Pathan added. The 26-year-old has taken his first steps for the Delhi Daredevils during the two warm-up games in which he picked up four wickets in all. “We are playing two more warm-up games before our first match. These games have helped me find my rhythm. When you are coming back from a long layoff even the smaller games help. The more I play the better I will get. I want to find the perfect balance between being a batsman and a bowler. I am confidence that I’ll be able to get back to my best while playing for the Daredevils this season,” Pathan added. Looking back on the past two seasons, the Baroda player admits he made a few mistakes. “There were times when I trained too hard. It probably happened because I was desperate to prove myself again and play for India. But now I know my body better and know what I need to do to peak at the right time.” That the Daredevils were willing to shell out $1.9mn for Pathan show their faith in his skills. “It is a new start for me all over again and a great opportunity.”

back in 2005 i put lot of faith in certain players with a hope they would be in the side for long time 1) Gambhir 2) Irfan 3) Dinesh Karthik 2 are out now. Both are talented. I hope both find their form again and come back.

^Irfan is sure to get back into the scheme of things in a few months. As for Karthikh, well, we've got Dhoni as Keeper so obviously no place for him as Keeper and we've got plenty of young batsmen coming up so does'nt look like KKD can have a spot as a stand alone batsman in the team either.

He stood 1 or 2 feet outside for sidebottom, anderson to virtually kill any swing available. Last tour to England he went in purely as a batsman. What is going against him is a terrible first class season. So Badri might just come back.

Do you remember Dinesh Kartik played a match winning knock against SL in SL in a final/decider and won the man of the match award ? I dont know why he got dropped after that and replaced by Parthiv Patel as the second keeper.

^Badri is one of the unluckiest guys in the entire domestic structure - poor guy has been performing consistently for years and years but has never got a proper chance while many other less deserving player have got far too many chances. If he had got a few chances in Tests then we might have got a permanent no 6 for which we have tried many a players in the last 2 years - Yuvi, Raina, Pujara etc.

I dont think batting will ever be a problem for us even in tests .Kohli Pujara Rahane Manish Pandey all have solid technique against moving ball and play bouncer well.They just need time and experience.The problem we had last 2 years was replacing Ganguly with Yuvraj and Raina neither of them has done anything in Ranji Trophy.We should pick players based on Ranji performances rather than ODI performances .

Without his partnership with Laxman in 2nd innings at Durban we would have lost that match.But he showed both temperament and technique to survive the last session on 2nd day.

I also rate Pujara highly, but an average of ten is a failure overall even considering the importance of that Durban innings. Remember that a young Dravid averaged 55 on his first tour of SA against Donald and Pollock - that's a stand out performance against a tough attack. Pujara looks to have the technique and mentality but let him put the performances on the board first.

I doubt it will happen. I get a feeling it will not be an out and out domination. Just us being one of the top teams. These things can help. 1) Sreesanth, Irfan, Ishant, Kumar, RP Singh raising their game to next level 2) New fast bowling talents be it Varun or someone else. 3) Ojha and Ashwin being more of regular members of Indian side and contributing 4) Rohit Sharma, Kohli, Pujara, Raina, Yuvraj raising their game at the test level. Yuvraj has to be played now. 5) India needs to find a second wicketkeeper batsman 6) Youngsters should play county cricket instead of IPL ( unrealistic I know ) 7) More A tours 8) Indian players bowing out of IPL and resting when they get time. 9) Cut down the no of teams in domestic tournaments 10) Right selection of Coach. My money is on Moody

True, although even on debut Dravid made 95 in England (not a great attack but alien conditions). I don't disagree with your assessment of Pujara, let's hope he converts his promise into performances in the coming series.

Technique, smechnique... at the end of the day.. do you have runs on the board.. That is what selectors will ask. We should not create another Rohit sharma at Test level. Pick the performers from first class.
