How SL produces such good cricketers ?

I guess they encourage unorthodox players and their coaches won't advise the players to change their natural style. That's why you see unique cricketers like malinga, murali and mendis. Also our selection system has improved only recently (starting from vengsarkar). Earlier most of the national cricketers were from very few confined regions like mumbai, karnataka.. now they started to look beyond and found gems like sehwag, zaheer and dhoni

I dont understand this population comparison. Are we allowed to play 50 players just because our population is 50 times that of other countries ? We only get to see the performances of those who play in the team. What makes you think others are not just as good ? They may have not grabbed the opportunities and may not have been lucky enough to score runs when they got the chance. I personally feel even our second/third string batting lineup is really good and they can make up a decent side of their own. Our bowling has to improve though, especially the pace bowling department. Any domestic circuit which produces someone like Sachin, Dravid, Dhoni, Sehwag, Zaheer, Yuvraj etc is doing all right IMO.

India's second string team lost 2 out of 2 matches vs Zimbabwe last summer.... I am really not sure if such a team could be anywhere competitive in this WC... :winky:

Maybe not this WC, but if given enough opportunities and groomed well, they can make a decent team. I feel Pujara, Rohit Sharma, Uthappa, Dinesh Kartik are quite decent. Not many teams in the world can boast of such batting strength on the bench.

School cricket is extremely competitive in SL. All the payers in national team has been recognized when they playing for their school. Sri Lankans know the schoolz of all the playerz if doesn't know their home towns.

if you believe there are only 10 skools in SL I m not gonna argue on it. But wen it come to rugby n cricket in SL, the school loyalty is in SL sports fan is higher than any part of the world. U may know there is some thing call 'big match' between two respective schools since colonial era. Eg. the big match between Royal College Colombo Vs St Thomas college Colombo started in 1879 and held for 135th time in last month. thats a test match play for 3 days and gathers more than 20,000 spectators.Like wise school cricket is competitive than the domestic cricket in sl. Get selecting to participating for the 'Big match' of his respective school is the first ever hurdle of being a crickerter in any youngster in SL. Thats how the players get recognized. Angelow Mathews has been identified when he was playing for St.Joseph's College in 2004.

school cricket is the answer. How many indian schools have cricket grounds here? Almost every school in Srilanka has proper grounds for cricket rugby and soccer. every school in Srilanka participates in district , state and national level competion.

India's bench strength is always going to be better than SL. Don't you think Raina would not have found a place in SL. He was sitting in the bench for us. He would pretty walk into any team in the world.

Neither does whole of India plays cricket. Football is popular in eastern part.

They have talented youth. They like to think different when they play in the playground. They look for tricks and skill to outsmart the opponent. They are basicaly an island, the atmosphere produces great swing bowlers and batsmen. Plus some of the learn to play cricket on the beaches, that can make a great player if done so regularly.
