Indiafan-Hyd Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 The SMSs circulated on mobile phones throughout, requesting the recipients to recite a certain ayat-e-kareema (verse) for Pakistan’s win, is just the tip of the iceberg. The religious leaders suggesting a tasbeeh (mantra) and dua-e-haajat (special prayer) for a potential win is another one. The country coming to a total standstill and special prayers being held for our team’s win, somehow beg for some collective thinking. We were reminded of the major Armageddon being played in Mohali between haq (truth) and baatil (falsehood). We were assured that haq always triumphs over baatil, no matter what. We were reminded of our major battles of the past, where we were supposedly bruised and battered, yet we were able to emerge as victors, only because of our faith. The irony is that these emotions are peddled on a constant basis, at every juncture of our lives, cricket or otherwise. Link

The god way I understand is not interested in taking sides in a cricket game. Pray for the welfare of the world and for all the downtrodden people but not for this crap. End of the day it is only a game just like several others I enjoy.

veer Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 well i will take different approach... the way these guys pray is different than us.. majority of us, meaning the ppl that i know (Indians), pray like 'hope every thing turns out ok.. no one gets harm .. ppl like sachin will pray like 'give me strength to win this game'.. but padosis pray like 'infidel should not win this.. we are the right ppl and only we should win.. we are the faithful ones.. they are nobelievers n should not win'.. i see difference in these two prayers.. and hence i agree with the article for the most part..

They bring religion to every damn thing. Remember when Shoaib Malik expressed his remorse and apology to 'all the muslims of the world' for losing to India in T20 WC...Pakistanis believe use of religious sentences make them more pious and pure than others however their action suggests otherwise. Fixing matches with sprinkle of 'bismillah'

Almighty would say "Sure thing, would you like Fries with that" Concept is same, When someone prays ( including Sachin ) , he would pray for India Win, now it would be fun if he is a believer of Ram as his wish would be granted as Ravana would be sitting across the table The only thing praying does is, make oneself believe that they did their part for the game and even if they didn't win, then it wasn't meant to be It's all time pass, if God helped or gave strength then damn those fitness coaches. It's timing, preparation, intelligence and the will to compete which decides win/loss
