Those ODI were enough to show that they are not international materials, however big domestic giants they might be! And there is no point in wasting another opportunities on them! This is the tragedy for seamers for our country. Our domestic system is just not reliable enough to tell us which seamer is a world beater! Or else Joginder Sharma or Pankaj Singh or Ranadev Bose would have taken the world by storm because that is how they've performed in the domestic circuit. We'll have to invest in potential bowlers now and if someone goes ahead with his hard work, it'll be our good luck. Thats how the things are. Which other MO batsmen did you mention? I think Badri won't get invested in now, that too in ODIs. So which other MO are left, better than Rayudu? Are you counting Rahane as MO batsman?

Pankaj has played just ONE one dayer against SL. Though from what I have heard he has his limitations- a lack of pace despite being 6 foot + for instance- he deserves a go for being a good bowler at domestic level. In his case more so in the longer format than in ltd overs cricket. We cant ignore the FC system altogether. Pacemen have been plucked from the U19 side over the years, but that has not necessarily been good for them. That must be a significant reason why so many start brightly only to fade- theyve barely played a season ot two of cricket and are unsure of their strengths, having to learn at Intl level can not be good for them. The LAST thing we want is for the same to happen to Aaron and Jaidev. Neither Ranadeb or Pankaj or guys like Gagandeep Singh really got a chance despite being fine domestic bowlers. Picked for a test squad and then unfairly dropped never to be heard of again. Mithun too, did ok touring SL on their flat tracks and then cast away. There is no consistency. Of course a bit of judgement is needed, Joginder may have a super FC record but is not a front line bowler. You get the likes of Balaji, who was a good test bowler before injury sadly cut his career short, Sree santh too, Praveen Kumar - all came through the FC route. So it does work for some. Im sure R P Singh had to go back to FC cricket to regain bowling form after his bright start faded- and returned a much better bowler As far as batsmen go- Yes Badri for one. He might not get a chance, but thats grossly unfair on him-especially if Pandey or Rayudu gets a go instead. Badri is having a good IPL and that might count in his favour. Otherwise thought of Rohit of course or Tiwary who had a good Vijay Hazare tourno, but his IPL so far has not been so good I dont think...not much to choose between him and Pandey tho I guess

Agree. Vijay is useless in ODIs. He just doesn't know how to pace an innings.

Agree. And he failed miserably in SA too. That raises a big question in his being a long term back up test opener too as he is bound to fail in testing conditions. To be honest among the youngsters, only Kohli was impressive in SA and every other young batsman disappointed. That is a concern.

Indian ODI squad selection for Windies on May 13 Press Trust of India Wednesday, 04 May 2011 Mumbai: The Indian squad for the one-day series and a Twenty20 match against the West Indies in the latter's backyard will be picked on May 13 in Chennai. "The selection panel (led by Krishnamachari Srikkanth) is to meet at Chennai on May 13 to choose the team," Cricket Board sources told PTI on Wednesday. The meeting will be held a day after Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni would have led Chennai Super Kings against the Delhi Daredevils at home. Super Kings' next fixture is against Kochi Tuskers Kerala, also at the M A Chidambaram Stadium, on May 18. The Indian squad, which is scheduled to leave for the Caribbean on June 1, will start the tour with a Twenty20 international against the West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad on June 4. The five ODIs follow the conclusion of the one-off Twenty20 game at the Queen's Park Oval (June 6 and 8), Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua (June 11 and 13) and Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica (June 16). After the conclusion of the limited-overs games, India will take on the West Indies in a three-match Test rubber from June 20-July 10 with the matches scheduled at the Sabina Park, Kensington Oval in Bridgetown (Barbados) and Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. The team for the Test series would be picked later.

I guess Gambo will be captain if he doesn't decide to take rest for this series ( Read somewhere that he is getting married). Rayudu, Parthiv and Uthappa may have a chance to get selected. I'd pick Abu nechim , Iqbal abdulla/ Jaddu , Mishra too.
