Rana Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Do you think it is about time this youngster starts for India in the Test arena, Replacements are gonna be the hot topic very soon as Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman are growing old. India did well by replacing Ganguly with Gambhir. Kohli looks the likely replacement of Dravid and i think he should play against England away, time to build him as the future of Indian batting at the highest level. Umar Akmal and Umar Amin have played for pakistan, why cant this lad get into this line up whereas he is better them those two and India need to swiftly look for replacements. Do not make the mistake the aussies made! When Hayden, Maggy, Warne and Langer retired all of a sudden, Australia just couldn't pick themselves up again. Better be safe and play the replacements regularly now alongside some stars, keep the Test no.1 ranking for as long as possible.:winky:

ViruRulez Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I would be tempted to try out Kohli. He has got everything to be a successful batsman in all formats including tests. Pujara has got a few chances and has proved himself in a few but missed a few too. I would give chance to Kohli as he has been doing extremely well and looks to be more talented with better temperament than any of the other probables including Pujara, Vijay, Badri, Raina and UV. Rest all will get chances once the legendary trio retires in a few years.

Frankly he belongs at the highest level to handle any type of bowling on any type of pitches. First glimpse was the way he played Mendis in the tour he haunted our premiere middle order. Also the way he played in SA was also a cue to his ability to survive at the highest level.

The contest between Raydu Rahane and Tiwari depnds on their form at time of the sneior retiring. For T20 and ODI other need to be looked especially Menaria , Raydu , Mayank and Paul Valhaty

Just 2 knocks from Valthaty in a tamasha league and everyone is going gaga over him! Forget him. There are PLENTY before him! I think if Dravid decides to hang up his boot, we must keep Kohli ready through warm up matches and all for that #3 spot. Pujara is okay for #6 and should get entire WI and England tour to prove his worth!
Ramzz Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Kohli needs to tighten up his game outside his off stump...he will pay the price if he tries to flick balls on and around off stump to the leg side...might not be so easy to do that in England where the ball swings quite a bit. Otherwise, he is capable of taking Dravid's spot.

Apparently his back is giving him a lot of trouble and he hasn't been able to train much off late leading to an increase in weight. There are chances that he may not be fully fit for the WI tour. If at all these specualtions are correct and VVS indeed doesn't travel to WI, Kohli should be the replacement.
straight.drive Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I am not bullish on Kohli. The guy has a weak technique for deliveries outside the off stump. He shuffles too much and tries to flick every delivery. He will not become an all-time great, but worth an attempt.

The good thing is that VVS gets a good break between series since he only plays tests. This summer will be a test though since there are 7 tests in a short span. Let's hope that he gets through. Still got a lot of time before the WI tests.

I don't think that Sehwag is the type of player who can or will adapt his game as he grows older. That is not one of his skills. That is why he looks terrible when out of form. He also cannot make runs when not in form (what S Waugh calls an ugly hundred). I think that he isn't the sort of guy who will hang around and play on for very long. The good thing is that he still has a lot of cricket left in him. I'm only worried about his fitness. :((
