vvvslaxman Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Lee and Malinga were still Lee and Malinga when they started off - much better in their youth without all those niggles and patchwork done over the years. Aaron will nvr be one of them - would pbly become a decent bowler by our standards http://www.hilalscricket.com/2007/11/video-lasith-slinga-malinga-lethal-on.html Malinga's debut
Prakat Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Yahan kaun fast bowlers ki dukan khol ke baitha hai ki? I don't like this, I'm not happy with this, I'm not impressed. :giggle:

vvvslaxman Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Dont worry guise, he has got a new mentor :two_thumbs_up: ACtually sir Aggy had one of the most promising start to his career. Quickest to get to 50 wickets.

Did anyone claim he will become the greatest bowler in the world ? He may very well do that but I dont see the point of comparing him with anyone at the moment. Stop the annoying hyper critical posts.
asterix Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 go see you chuckter sulking over his phaaaaast bowling stories :finger: He was being sarcastic..
youngindia Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 You cannot possibly deny there was lot of hype around him purely based on that 153 kph.. NO. he is among the faster if not the fastest indian bowler and hence got the hype. nothing unusual about it. 153 is max speed and max speed is not something attained by people everyday by its very nature.its an exception not the rule the core observations have to pertain to an average case.
vvvslaxman Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 so what do you want the most perfect start ,we all know that will happen very rarely,nd even if that happens pacers get injured ,zak became a good bowler only around 2007 in sa tour took him over 6 yrs sri started i 91 but hardly got chances till mid 90s only kapil paaji started off well but ended quite ordinarily we all know ind strength is not pace bowling but being completely negative nd hopeless about it wont help No not hopeless Not negative. Just not having false hopes. At this point he is no different from any other upcoming Indian fast bowler. I am having hope from him as much as i have in say any other fast bowlers that are going around. He can take even 10 years. I'll hop on the bandwagon at that time.
hari504504 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Again why are you comparing Steyn with Aaron ? Am I missing something here ? Did anyone claim he will become the greatest bowler in the world ? He may very well do that but I dont see the point of comparing him with anyone at the moment. Stop the annoying hyper critical posts. you certainly are . Verbatim I didn't compare Aaron with Steyn at all to begin with. And look at the post I originally quoted. it was implied that he is not hitting Lee/Malinga's speeds because it is so early in his career. Those guys were good from the word go.
saneindian Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Bowled well for someone making his IPL debut. Given all the hype around him, he may have been tense as well. From what I saw, he will definitely bowl quicker once he gets comfortable playing more such pressure matches. Hopefully Viru encourages him at DD like he did for Ishant when he played Ranji under him at Delhi.
NareshK Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 you certainly are . Verbatim I didn't compare Aaron with Steyn at all to begin with. And look at the post I originally quoted. it was implied that he is not hitting Lee/Malinga's speeds because it is so early in his career. Those guys were good from the word go. This is not Varun's ODI or Test debut btw. This is just an IPL game. I doubt you have seen Steyn and Brett Lee playing their debut domestic games and even if they had been good, they didnt bowl on flat wickets like Kotla and that too in T20 format. They probably started bowling in conditions like Perth, Cape Town in longer formats. So the comparison is even more absurd.
Number Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 brett lee bowled his fastest in 29 yrs of age , shoaib's fastest at 28 , tait's at 29 .. experts say as much as you bowl your fast bowling muscles gets strengthen ,, so 26-29 is the peak ,, econ. of fast bowlers today morkel - 8 , pathan - 8.67, sir agarkar - 11.75 ryan harris - 12 , PK - 11 so a bad day for fast bowlers ,but he got crucial wicket of gilly .. he deserves next match IMO
youngindia Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 you certainly are . Verbatim I didn't compare Aaron with Steyn at all to begin with. And look at the post I originally quoted. it was implied that he is not hitting Lee/Malinga's speeds because it is so early in his career. Those guys were good from the word go. there is a difference between initial success and becoming established players who can give reliable performnaces Initial sucess or failure means nothing.initially all players lack maturity in one aspect or the other. only long period of trial and error will say. lee/malinga are not great test bowlers BTW.
asterix Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Lee, Malinga etc might've been lucky to not have to play in T20 matches early in their careers and that too on Indian pitches..One shouldn't compare bowlers like Varun who have to start by playing in IPL. Yes, he didn't hit the pace he was hyped for (the hype was everywhere, even SKY TV presenters were also discussing, it's not that they've read some topics in ICF.. It's a FACT that Varun has bowled fast in domestc matches and people are/were discussing him). Maybe he was instructed by his coach and captain to not try to bowl very fast. I mean who knows. Give the kid some chance. People are pretending as if we have plthora of Phaast bowler waiting to get in the team. The less we talk about that pretender Ishant the better..
youngindia Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 agree with the 1st parts bt are you sure lee is not a great test bowler he has over 300 test wickets though malinga has fitness problems as far as bowling in tests are considered good bowler, not penetrative enough to be great.harbhajan has 300+ wickets as well!
youngindia Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 it is because lee doesnt really swing it ' date='where as steyn swings it at a similar pace as lee[/quote'] lee does swing it.look at the 2007 series for his outswingers and also troubled sachin wtih the incoming one his strategy was wrong essentially in tests.urged to bowl fast.too short and without control many times.he had more pace then steyn. when he did learn, his body gave away in 2008. if you are talking about 2007-2008, steyn and lee were around the top inthe world. too much pace means you can compromise on other parameters.neither akthar or lee ended as a great bowlers. if you think about american palyers like roddick and serena , its too much power but parameters like acute angles(of a great shotmaker like graf olr federer) get compromised. one can say lee and akthar faced the same problem .too much pace and other paramters got compromised. works to a point where brute power overwhelms everything else but not beyond that point
Guest Gunner Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 agree with the 1st parts bt are you sure lee is not a great test bowler he has over 300 test wickets though malinga has fitness problems as far as bowling in tests are considered http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=159000
vvvslaxman Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Steyn's ability is line, length, accuracy. More often than not he can get everything right. In the recent series most of the time he started around the leg stump on a good length and swung the ball from that angle towards the slips from there. It was unbelievable outswing bowling exhibition. His strategy was simple there. He was only bowling 135 to 140k most of the time with new ball. When he came later , he cranked up the pace and beat the batsmen with raw pace and reverse. He used the speed intelligently
Show_stopper Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I'm convinced he is the fastest pacer in India at the moment. the Hyderabad speed gun(hence Ishant's) isn't credible...in any case Ishant's speeds barely crossed 145 in the very next game. this guy has already done it many times in the 4 overs he bowled. And each time he bowled below 140 kph it looked like he was varying his pace. I have no doubts that e can be a regular 145 kph bowler for us. not a Tait or Shoaib but can definitely be a 90 MPH bowler.
youngindia Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 it is a misconception that reducing pace will increase swing look at irfu does he swing it at his pedestrian pace but steyn swings it' date='[/quote'] 1. lee was a outswing bowler with the new ball...it was not occasional however he didn't have proper knowledge of reverse swing 2. speed and swing is an indivdual thing. akthar and lee are at "extreme speed" where control is difficult.hence other parameters can get compromised.Marshall and steyn are ok at one level below in speed. 3. aussie cricketers did ask for lee to stick to outswing at 145 and not to bowl too fast. damien fleming his long time mate mentioned he was not bowling full enough in tests.
