ganeshran Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 When you already have an attacking batsman on one end, why play a mindless slogger on the other end. Kohli can open and play the consolidator while Gayle attacks. If Gayle gets out early Tiwari can come in his place.
Zelig Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I prefer a RHB to partner Gayle at the top. It's all well known that Gayle struggles against offies early in his innings. So, opening with a RHB, who can play spin well, will negate the tactic to certain extent. Mayank or Kaif will be my choice, if Pujara is not available. But if they opt to play 3 foreign batsmen + 1 bowler instead of 2 batsmen + 2 bowlers (other being Langa'), I'll open with Rilee.

ganeshran Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Dhoni has very good hand - eye coordination, plus he is an amazing keeper. Tiwary isnt an extraordinary fielder so he has to come into the team on the virtue of his batting alone

ViruRulez Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Yes The guy needs a good chance to prove his worth. He is played way down the order for his talent but has performed quite well in the limited chances he got this season. But he is looking a bit rusty too after not getting too many chances.

He would do well to follow Mat Hayden or Greame Smith blueprint, **** technique but made themselves effective.

The batsman's cowlasher's strokes are reminiscent of that :D It means wild slogger - not much technique or anything but just swing wildly and hopefully ball will make sweet contact with the bat and fly out (possibly, even fly out to the cow corner - between deep midwicket and long on). While that may not be all, making most of the lucky runs with such wild swishes is the sine qua non of a cowlasher :musicman:
