There is some good news for Indian cricket fans. Explosive batsman Virender Sehwag has successfully undergone surgery on his right shoulder and is doing pretty well. The Delhi player had travelled to London to consult a specialist and underwent the surgery there. Sehwag's long-time coach AN Sharma said: "I had a word with him and he said that the operation (done a couple of days day back) has been quite successful." "He will be under observation for a few more days and should be back soon," added Sharma. Sehwag underwent surgery for a labrum (shoulder blade) tear. Although he had led Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite the injury, he opted out of the tournament once the pain became unbearable and it became clear his team had no chance of making it to the play-offs. The 32-year-old opener had been troubled by the injury earlier too - he missed the one-dayers in South Africa before the World Cup, having skipped the T20 World Cup held in the West Indies last year. The surgery will put Sehwag out of action for at least two months, which mean he will not participate in India's tour of West Indies that runs from June 4 to July 10. He could also miss out at least the initial part of the subsequent England tour. Sehwag had also suffered a shoulder injury way back in 2002 after hurting himself while fielding in a Test against Zimbabwe in New Delhi. That also forced him to miss out on a tour of the Carribbean.

After leaving his Indian Premier League outfit, Delhi Daredevils, in the midst of the tournament last week, Sehwag underwent a serious shoulder surgery in London. The Delhi-born opening batsman, who will not be able to join the national side for the upcoming tour of West Indies, is hopeful to recover and offer his services for the crucial England series. "I think I will able to play the series in England. That's the reason why I stopped playing the Indian Premier League for Delhi Daredevils and rushed to London to get my shoulder operated," Sehwag said. The flamboyant batsman was attended by Dr. Andrew Wallace, the same surgeon who operated on the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, a few years back. On his recovery, Sehwag, who reached India last night, said, "I will return to London after six weeks for a check-up. I should be fit in six to eight weeks. Going by the rehabilitation programme designed for me I should be okay. I am already feeling the difference each day." According to the news, Sehwag mostly stayed in the hotel room during his short visit in England and the only time he went outside his hotel was to check into the hospital for an hour long shoulder surgery. When asked about the recently announced Indian squad for the upcoming series against Windies, the Indian dasher expressed that in the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir was the best option to lead the side in the Caribbean tour. Meanwhile, he made it clear that the young side has all the potential to do well on West Indian pitches. Sehwag, who is the only Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket, has served his country in 87 Tests in which he scored 7694 runs at an average of 53.43. In 2007, India won the Test series in England for the first time after 1986, and it can be recalled that Sehwag was not even selected in the 15-member squad at that time.

well 2 weeks this month, then 4 weeks in June, 2 in July...which equals 8 weeks recovery time. Don't think he is going to make the England tests. At least not the first 2 ones.

Good to read that. Don't want him to rush back from the injury, go through the proper rehab, give it adequate rest and be back only after a full recovery. Hopefully the surgery in time makes him stronger and maybe help him play longer than he would have earlier thought.

I hope he doesn't hasten his comeback just for the Eng tour. He should take his time and get back when he's totally fit. He has another 4-5 good years in him and I wouldn't want to lose them because Sehwag came back from the injury too soon which caused more dmage shortening his intl career. He will be crucial for us in Aus and should try to focus on his recovery and not on a specific tour.

Excellent news for england.
Yes it is excellent news for English crowd, they will be able to see a batsman scoring 300 in 200 balls rather there usual boring 60 odds after facing 200 deliveries
