ravishingravi Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Was this not a case of match fixing ? Or lets say purposely underperforming. Did he ever provide any explanations for this great knock. PS I think Gavaskar is one of our all time greats and definitely best player of fast bowling from India imo with unbelievable courage. But this is rather dubious.
Sachin=GOD Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Guess he was still in Test mode when he played that innings :phehehe:
EnterTheVoid Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Something to do with his argument with Kapil/Venkatraghavan over captaincy i think no match fixing, he was just being a pr@t because of internal politics.
jairamesh Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Gavaskar was probably just disgusted at the very of idea of hit&giggle one-day cricket to determine the world's best...hence protesting!

Cricket Tragic Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Kapil Dev was still a kid in 1975 and hadn't even made his debut for India. Here we have people thinking he was in the running to be the captain. :hysterical:
Bublu Bhuyan Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 It's highly rumored that he was annoyed with the selectors decision of appointing Srinivas Venkataraghavan as captain, and hence played that innings in disgust.
Zap_Brannigan Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Gavaskar comes across as a very petty person. He probably did it because he didn't like ODI's or to prove a point to someone. But everyone makes mistakes. He has apologized and so its done with. As i wasnt even born then, i have no idea how it felt for people watching it live ( or hearing about in on radio) but if it was anything like Prabhakar and Mongia's magical partnership, i wouldnt blame anyone for still being angry at him.
nballa Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 why would anyone want to be the captain of the indian cricket team? its the worlds most thankless job. i think mike rowe is featuring it in his next edition of discovery channel's dirty jobs.
Khalpat Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 One interesting thing to note was this match was only third match not only for Sunil Gavaskar but also for India in ODI but in his second last match Sunil Gavaskar hit the fastest century at that time in ODI by Indian just in 87 balls. The journey from slowest to fastest by this great player.
