ravishingravi Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 by Hashan Tillekaratne "Colombo, June 4(ANI): Ex-Sri Lanka captain Hashan Tillakaratne has reportedly alleged that two former senior Lankan cricketers- Aravinda de Silva and Sanath Jayasuriya- and former Sri Lanka Cricket Board President Thilanga Sumathipala were involved in fixing international matches. Hashan met with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and disclosed to him many details about the cricketing scene in the country that have not yet been revealed, Lanka News Web reports. Rajapaksa continuously questioned about the fraud and corruption committed by Sumathipala when Hashan gave him details of corruption in cricket. Hashan explained the role played by De Silva, Jayasuriya and Sumathipala in match fixing, the role played by a Pakistani business in the whole matter and the involvement of many well known international cricketers. Hashan explained all these details to Rajapaksa by bringing out personal issues he has had to face as a Sri Lankan cricketer. The report claimed former parliamentarian Ven Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero, a popular Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka, facilitated the meeting between Rajapaksa and Hashan. The President called the IGP after the revelation and said: "IGP, Hashan malli is with me. Close the file on him." (ANI)

For one I just don't think bookies would have targeted Sri Lanka to fix matches as majority of the punters from India and Pakistan would never make Sri Lanka favourites to win any matches. Hence no point paying Sri Lanka to win a match! Maybe there is case for spot fixing i.e. Jayasurya's runs and sixes. All I see is a political riff raff involving political entities from SL president to ministers. Foremost Tillekaratne should have handed his evidence to ICC and ACU, as all cricket bodies are independent of government interference.

I am really not sure how authentic all this is. I can't imagine anyone would accuse Aravinda and Sanath of all people. This sounds crazy.

Srilanka were the world camphions during the time match fixing was at peak. they would have def been targeted by bookies.

Squashing reports by a Lankan website that he had revealed the names of de Silva and Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne made a statement denying mentioning any names to President Mahinda Rajapaksa during a recent meeting. "While my wife Apsari Tillakaratne and Rev Uduwe Dhammaloka also took part with me in a meeting which had been summoned by His Excellency the President to find out about the earlier statement I had made to this assembly, I would like to insist to this august assembly that there was no mention of any player or person at that meeting," Tillakaratne stated. Tillakaratne, who is now an opposition UNP member in the Western Provincial Council, made this statement at a Council meeting, according to 'Daily Mirror'. A Lankan website had reported that Tillakaratne had named de Silva and Jayasuriya as involved in match fixing when he met the president along with popular Buddhist monk Uduwe Dhammaloka. More..

He was from the same school as Aravinda.
