Just making this thread on the back of the comments that Dravid has made recently. In this day and age where there is big money to be made and huge egos everywhere in the game, which are the players you have respect for showing a bit of class and being a cut above most of the riff raff. Well, you have missed out on a few names like Kumble, Laxman and Srinath. I can never forget the way Kumble conducted not only himself but also the team after the Sydney test. As for Srinath, him apologizing to the batsman after hitting him with a bouncer may seem to be a weak attitude for a sportsman but that's what he was, a true gentleman :hatsoff:

+1 ... For me thats The only really big difference between West Indies team of 70s 80 versus Aussies of late 90 and 2000 was attitude. Despite all the great cricketing ability and records and victories, Aussies were all sore loosers..... And they manged to spread their filth everywhere....

Mishragreat - I think we're heading in the same path though. When the Aussies came to India recently, the Indians were having a word every other ball. We are definitely the sledgers of world cricket right now. And you know what? I ****ing love it. We've taken a lot of crap. About time we pummel other teams to the ground - through cricket and mentally. If only we had a couple of ruthless bowlers who could bowl at express pace... Anyway, back on topic, from what I've read of Gambhir - he seems like a very nice guy. People wouldn't think of him as a gentleman because he fights back when someone has a word with him, but he never starts the confrontation. Viv Richards said a couple of years ago (perhaps when Gambhir was the most in-form batsman in world cricket), that he met him on a flight and he was very impressed with the enthusiasm, politeness and passion that Gambhir showed - asking Viv for advice on how he could improve his game. That's gentlemanly. Just because someone has a bit of fire and passion doesn't make him not a gentleman.

People put the excuse of fire, passion, colour, indivuduality and all... Do you think Walsh or Ambrose had no passion. Forget about beating the batsman, they used break the off stump and then slowly go to the keeper as if they are going to shake hands. No sledging. I havent seen a lot of greats..... But I dont rememebr Richards saying anything to any bowler in any game... People say Miandad was allways talking with keeper while batting.... Most people here will remember him jumping on his pitch after given not out or something(More was keeper).... May be that could probably come under umbrella of colour or passion... But If you Call Siddhu colourfull because he in reality lost it and went after Sohail with Bat then sorryy, I dont agree.
