1983-2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I was looking at list of india's prime ministers and was surprised to see that BJP has only ruled India for 6 years. there was a Hung parliament in 1996 and Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in power for only 13 days, after BJP could not gather enough support from other parties to form a majority. Then BJP ruled for two terms from 1998 to 2004 as part of NDA. this just shows that BJP are only good in opposition but doesn't how to play politics and can't run the country.
urbestfriend Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Unfortunately general perception of BJP's communal politics never win votes for it, especially from Muslim voters and also lack of presence of BJP in many states..I wish there is an alternative to these two parties in central...

No...this shows that you get the government you deserve. Anyone that continues to vote for the congress shouldnt whine and complain about garbage infastructure, terrorism, lack of development, corruption etc. As you said they've been calling the shots 95% of the time. You are the very people satisfied with the status quo and deserve what you are getting. Keep your Kashmiri/Italian monarchy in power for all you want I will drink to the day India throws these rascals out and gets serious about development.

So, you first chose the party to support and then looked through country's history. Just shows why Congress get voted time and time again.

If it did not rule when it had the chance, 90s and early 2000s it aint coming back anytime.

Khalpat Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I read this somewhere, wonder if its true or not, Congress in its 50+ years of rule laid 36,013 KMs of national highways. BJP laid 31,271 KMs in just FIVE years!!!... Also during Congress time before BJP came to power India was always equated with Pakistan in the eyes of west, it was during Vajpayee reign, things changed India-China was the new word. Kashmir was the most peaceful in the six year of BJP rule. The team of Brajesh Mishra-Vajpayee-APJ Abdul Kalam was the best possible team India can ever get in its highest ranking.

BJP laid 31,271 KMs in just FIVE years!!!... Dude, you are not sure where you read it but are sure about the exact length in km? Thats funny. Although to be fair your point is well taken, in the days or BJP there was this effort of building infrastructure. Although it is equally fair to ask why this was more of an effort nationwide and did not exactly worked out in the States they have ruled. Also during Congress time before BJP came to power India was always equated with Pakistan in the eyes of west Not true. it was during Vajpayee reign, things changed India-China was the new word. Again, not true. The team of Brajesh Mishra-Vajpayee-APJ Abdul Kalam was the best possible team India can ever get in its highest ranking. That was a formidable team no doubt. But stronger than Nehru-Rajinder Prasad- Sardar Patel?

Khalpat Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Dude, you are not sure where you read it but are sure about the exact length in km? Thats funny. Dude there is a National Highway Development Authority in India and if they can not keep record of exact KM of roads no use of them. Although to be fair your point is well taken, in the days or BJP there was this effort of building infrastructure. Although it is equally fair to ask why this was more of an effort nationwide and did not exactly worked out in the States they have ruled. This question should be asked to States, the OP was talking about BJP rule in Centre and you also accept they did good in infrastructure. Not true. Again, not true. Care to show how these are not true, believe it or not, India was always equated with Pakistan until mid 90's in the eyes of western media. I admit the reason for changing of stance was not sudden it started during Manmohan-Narsimha Rao period and got strengthen in Vajpayee period. That was a formidable team no doubt. But stronger than Nehru-Rajinder Prasad- Sardar Patel? I admit this would have been a good team but Sardar Patel died in 1950 so their time span was very less and also the relation between Patel and Nehru was not very cordial after independence, they had difference of opinion in almost every matter. So any team comprising of how so ever great leaders can not be termed as good team if they have difference of opinion in almost every matter.
coffee_rules Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 BJP lost it in 2004 because of Modi and how other parties played Godhra card everywhere. Also, it was premature announcement of elections ( 6months early) which some experts thought would work in BJP's favor,. actually worked against it. Others had enough money power to sustain the unexpected, while BJP can't beat Congress in the finance dept!. India Shining was another blunder.

India Shining was a terrible terrible blunder from BJP think tank at that time.
