ravishingravi Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Simple enough. I guess I was just feeling nostalgic watching Dravid and Laxman bat. We really have no replacements for these greats. 1) do I need to say ? 2) Sunil Gavaskar 3) VVS Laxman ( yes I have thought long and hard over this one ) 4) Gundappa Vishwanath 5) Rahul Dravid Notable names excluded Vengsarkar, Amarnath, Azhar, Jaisimha, Sehwag
Javier Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Number 1 choice is simply an obvious selection by a good margin. But I think it should be Dravid at 3 instead of Laxman who hasnt been as successeful against all teams except Australia , Dravid has a more balanced record compared to Laxman against all test nations.
Sachin=GOD Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 1. 2. Gavaskar 3. Dravid 4. Sehwag 5. Laxman/Vishwanath.
Raghav_12 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Sachin, Gavaskar, Dravid, Laxman Sehwag/Vishwanath
Misu243 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Currently... Sachin VVS Laxman Rahul Dravid Harbhajan Sehwag
daryl1985 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 1. Sachin 2. Gavaskar 3. Dravid 4. Sehwag 5. Laxman I only started watching cricket in 99 so i can't talk about many players before then. Gavaskar has to be in the top 5 given the fact that many of the great Windies players respect him so much. In my opinion Sehwag will overtake Dravid before retirement and Gambhir could come into contention for a top 5 spot if he continues to play as he has done in the last 3 years.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 1. 2. Gavaskar 3. Dravid 4. Sehwag 5. Laxman/Vishwanath. Agree with this ranking but I would have Laxman all by himself at 5. Viswanath was good but solely based on the 4th innings miracles and those amazing innings against Aussies should get Laxman the no. 5 spot exclusively.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Tendulkar Gavaskar Dravid Sehwag Laxman Spot on!
Sooda Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Spot on! Why thanks :D Followed by ..possibly... Vishwanath Hazare Gambhir Amarnath Azharuddin
Texan Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 1. Gavaskar was a lone warrior throughout his career. Played innumerable match-winning and match-saving knocks without much support. Superb record against the best bowling attack of the time. Just pips Sachin to the top spot in my list 2. Tendulkar - Played over 20 years of cricket and scored consistently in all environments against alll bowlers 3. Dravid - the Wall 4. Laxman - the runs he scored were worth its weight in gold. Came to the rescue number of times during crunch times and won/saved many matches. Played the best innings ever by an Indian 5. Sehwag closely followed by Hazare Sehwag for his sheer awesomeness and Hazare for being an early leader in batting.
AbhishekS Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 1. Dravid 2. Sehwag 3. Laxman 4. Gavaskar 5. Tendulkar/Vishwanath

AbhishekS Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 how do u put laxman and viru ahead of sachin? That is a personal opinion and I've never been a fan of Sachin at the test level.
Raghav_12 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 1. Dravid 2. Sehwag 3. Laxman 4. Gavaskar 5. Tendulkar/Vishwanath Dravid Gavaskar Sehwag Sachin Laxman Gavaskar SRT Sehwag Dravid Vishy/Laxman Looks like V_D managed to inspire quite a good number of people :winky:
