Again, no opportunity is too small for someone like Ian Bishop to point out our apparent weakness against short-pitched bowling. But when the tables are turned, the criticism is far more generic and gentle. Bishop comes from the end of the of the great West Indian fast bowling era and would have been one of the greats himself if not for injuries. You've got to realize the fierce pride and talent the likes of Bishop and Dujon played with and how it must hurt to see their team languishing at the bottom of the test ladder, with little hope for a comeback given the infighting. I can really empathize with these guys - they put their heart and soul into cricket and today see one of their best batsmen sitting amongst the spectators, not to mention the general decline of cricket in the Caribbean.

I hope Zaheer and Sreesanth find their form and fitness in time for England series and Ishant continues his current form. What a sight it would be to watch Zaheer, Sreesanth and Ishant bowl in tandem at the top of their game. I dare say this could be the best ever seam attack ever fielded by India :woot:

With Aaron we will be under the impression he will bowl close to 150 kph and when test rolls along he will be flinging around 78-80 mph a la Mithun.

No Mithun with his whole hearted effort bowled 80 mph in whole match. Varun is easily bowl 145 and he will at least bowl 135 even at the end of the day. I have seen him bowling 140+ consistently over a 5 over spell and PK, you happened in this match. He cannot be a test bowler at that pace. He was not even touching 120 KPH and ball was not swinging too. Ball doe snot always swing in England too. For a number one side, we do no need one trick pony bowlers, though he still do good enough in England using the conditions, but he does not look a long-term strike bowler.

Please don't change your opinion like they do with diapers. From "PK is not fit for tests" to "PK is a must for England" and now back to "PK cannot be a test bowler", all in a matter of a week's time!! Awesome.

Yeah I said he can be our third seamer in England, but I never said he can play tests everywhere. I just said he will be good in England because of conditions. He is just a one trick pony and will always be. Don't expect batsmen to be in much trouble by 115 KPH swingers. He can play as a third seamer in England because there we will have Zak and he keep his lien and length right and will not give keep one end tight and also will take a wicket or two. To be a real test fast bowler, a bowler need to be effective in most of the conditions, not just one, look at how he was exposed today with no swing available. I said I will prefer him over Sreeshanth in England until Sreesanth gets rid of his mental midgetness. Problem with PK is I thought he will at least bowl 125-130 like Asif and he can be handy with his swing even at that pace, but he was struggling to touch even 120 Kph yesterday and was more often in 112-118 Kph range. I think with the cooler climate in england PK will bowl similar speeds to Asif.But i still would prefer Sreesanth as with Zaheer in the team he is lot more controllable IMO and is maturing also he gives a different dimension to our attack than PK.He can be the real x factor for us in SA IMO and with Ishant and Zaheer bowling consistently we can afford that too.

He has realized the value of being consistent and having seen his colleagues win the worldcup,I am sure he is set for the long haul. Although too early to call it, I think he has even more potential than Zak.

BERGKAMP Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 He should only play tests and important ODIs. It is so important to keep him fit and not have him face any burn out or have regular injury issues. He is a gem that you only find once in a decade. If he says he wants to play IPL, BCCI should refuse him permission and pay him whatever money he is missing out on anyway.
