Pagalpanti Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Off late I've noticed that Harbhajan tends to be defensive. Bowls on the leg, too short or too full. Doesn't toss it up, neither uses the Doosra often. I mean even in this match the pitch has been doing so much but he is finding it difficult, its the best pitch he can get but he is bowling from around the wicket which is not allowing him to get those lbws and bat-pad catches. I think its more of a captains way of using him, I think dhoni is using him as a defensive bowler to contain one end and using mishra and other bowlers to attack. So I just checked statsguru for Harbhajan's performance under Ganguly and Dhoni. Ganguly often told his players to be aggressive and go for wickets. Dhoni sometimes does get a bit defensive imo. Under Ganguly's captaincy: Mat: 37 , Wickets: 177 , Average: 26.84 , SR: 59 Under Dhoni's captaincy: Mat: 24 , Wickets: 106 , Average: 32.06 , SR: 69 Although his batting has improved, he has become more of a defensive bowler. I still back him to do well if he gets attacking, he can be one of the best off spinners currently but its really disheartening to see him bowling the way he is, not going for wickets but containing runs. PS: This isn't a comparison thread for Dhoni and Ganguly. Both have been great captains for India. I'm as much a fan of Dhoni as I'm of Ganguly. Its just about Harbhajan's performance off-late.
rkt.india Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 At that time, we used to produce turning pitches at home mostly..now we get pattas...his bowling has also been deteriorated...inconsistent...more short balls...can't hit right areas consistently enough....
say2chander Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 PITCHES IN India changed so much. We need 1990 and early 2000s pitches.
Andy Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Ganguly has been the one of the worst captains to have ever graced Indian cricket.
rkt.india Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Ganguly has been the one of the worst captains to have ever graced Indian cricket. What is this sir?:--D
Sidhoni Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Ganguly has been the one of the worst captains to have ever graced Indian cricket. Andy?Is your account hacked or what? The biggest Dada fan saying this!! Cant believe it!
mishra Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Maan da ladalaa.... Bigad gaya Maan da ladalaa.... Bigad gaya
mishra Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Ganguly has been the one of the worst captains to have ever graced Indian cricket. Sarcasm :icflove:
saneindian Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Bhajji has completely stopped bowling the doosra and even the top spinners that he used to bowl so effectively. That could be one reason why his bite has gone down these days. Wonder what exactly is the reason.
mishra Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Bhajji has completely stopped bowling the doosra and even the top spinners that he used to bowl so effectively. That could be one reason why his bite has gone down these days. Wonder what exactly is the reason. Hiolding says doosara cant be legal... :winky: May be Dhoni the gentleman already thinks same... Doosara is valid only against goddy...
Fontaine Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Bhajji's simply failed to accurately land the ball on the right line. With this much turn we saw Bishoo landing the ball consistently wide of offstump so the ball would spin into the batsmen. Bhajji simply hasn't done that. His line is all over the place instead of attacking the stumps far too many of his deliveries are going down leg side.
Pagalpanti Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 ^ Thats right. But what I fail to understand is when everyone and also he knows that he is more attacking when he is bowling Around the wicket why does he end up bowling so many overs over the wicket. Dhoni as captain should bring him around the wicket. Even in 1st Innings he was far more threatening when he was bowling over the wicket.
f.b.m Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Afaik, He hardly used to bowl around the wicket under Dada. My memories of him are him harmlessly bowling over the wicket to left handers who just pad him away and sweep him once or twice an over to collect the centuries that were gifted to them. I think a lot of his 'deterioration' is because he has straightened up his action (compared to what it was before) not only for the doosra but for the regular off spinner as well. Maybe batsmen play him more defensively now that he is the first spinner in the team. Maybe there is no Kumble to build up pressure on the other end. btw, Do you have the economy rates under each of the captains?
punjabi_khota Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 For all his enormous experience, sadly he still remains a confidence bowler. Once he gets one wicket, he will be all over the Windies.
asterix Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 As Fontain said, Bhajji's line is all over the place..Because he has the tendency to drag the line towards leg side, he tries to compensate it by bowling round the wicket..Also most of the times he is gripping the ball too tightly which drags down the line.. He has become very predictable.
mishra Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Can we have Bhajji batting stats under two captains please...
Pagalpanti Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 Yeah thats more like it Bhajji. Toss it up and don't care if you go for runs, you'll get a lot more wickets. :yay: -- Lol he did go for runs, but he shouldn't worry. India has this match well under control, he's better off bowling that length then bowling leg stump darts.
CSK Fan Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Well at that time, he was new and had to fight for his place. Now he is gauranteed a place in the side
desi pride 1234 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 y dont u show bajji's bowling under dravid captaincy? he was accused by the coach chappel that he deliberately bowled badly under dravid's captaincy.
