anotherhawkeye Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I don't think Rahane, Badri will stand a chance right now as it seems unless something changes drastically!!!! Rahane has 0 chance. Badri needs a miracle. He needs to get in the squad in the next test and produce a solid innings to get picked up. Chances of him playing in the next test, let alone score a ton, is slim.
anotherhawkeye Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I'm worried about the opening slot. VJ will be hopeless if the pitch isn't flat. It'll be hard for anyone to fill Viru/GG's shoes. Based on how Mukund performs in the next test, he might be a better option than MV.
vvvslaxman Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 DK anyday over Pappu for me unless DK proves to be crappier wicket-keeper than him!!!!! That is a difficult task . Baby face should have never decided to become a keeper. When you combine short hands, limited reach, less agility, poor reflex and technique it is recipe for disaster. Karthik sometimes pulls off blinders and misses the easy ones. So that is more to do with concentration than actual skill.
anotherhawkeye Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Yea.. Raina is suitable on certain surfaces. When the ball consistently gets up above your chest' date=' Raina will lose the concentration and edge one eventually. He is naturally an attacking player. So patience is not exactly his forte.[/quote'] I see where you are going and kind of agree with you. But if Raina has a solid outing in the next test, how can you not select him and give his place to Pujara for no mistake of his own? Anyway, much depends on how Kohli/Raina/Mukund performs in the next test. If Raina scores a couple of 20s, he should have no qualms about getting dropped.
Cricket Tragic Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 It'll be hard for anyone to fill Viru/GG's shoes. Based on how Mukund performs in the next test' date=' he [i']might be a better option than MV. Gambhir is fit. We're not expecting that level obbiously but something like what Karthik did in 2007. Stick around and make 40-50 runs.
saneindian Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Is there any news on Sehwag's fitness yet? His coach had said he isn't likely to be fit for the tour. Would that mean both Mukund and Vijay getting their chance again alongside Gambhir for the opening slot? If Viru isn't fit then the likely squad would be Batsmen - Gambhir, Vijay, Mukund, Dravid, Sachin, VVS, Yuvraj, Raina Keeper- Dhoni, Parthiv Spinners- Bhajji, Mishra Seamers- Zak, PK, Ishant, Sree, Munaf/Mithun Don't see RPS getting into the picture unless MSD puts his foot down and asks for him or if the selectors think he is fit enough for international cricket again. Kohli will be unlucky to miss out.

zen Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I haven't followed cricket much of late so don't know who is unfit/injured but assuming all is well Ind could go with the line up below: Openers: Sehwag, Gambhir, ? Other batsmen: Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar, Pujara WK: Dhoni, PP/Karthik Seamers: Zak, Ishant, Sree, PK Spinners: Mishra, Ashwin/Bhajji
gakgupta Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 don't we have better back-up opener, other than Vijay....Fed up of seeing this guy bat. Absolute crap, if pitch isn't flat.......same old indian difficulties with openers.....Rahane should start opening for mumbai this ranji season. Then he can get into this batting line-up

He has gone down in that regard rather than improving imo.
phaedrus Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 he is one of the players that have been messed up by the t20s for sure. used to be very compact till he started doing well for CSK and now is getting increasingly flashy. He could do serious damage to his career is he continues like this
Karan114 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 he is one of the players that have been messed up by the t20s for sure. used to be very compact till he started doing well for CSK and now is getting increasingly flashy. As a fan, I would much rather he focus on becoming the best Test player he can rather than focus on tamasha slogging, but as a player it is a no-brainer for him to focus on making money from the IPL.
cowboysfan Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I dont want Parthiv to be our back up WK and the reason is he is not a WK. this makes complete sense and is also true but i disagree.pappu is miles ahead of saha as far as batting is concerned.its unlikly we will have to play him because dhoni is very fit.

koksmayu Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 must be this sqaud gambhir vijay or kohli dravid sachin laxman dhoni raina harbhajan zaheer munaf ishant praveen rohit vijay or kohli mishra
Cricket Tragic Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 gambhir vijay or kohli dravid sachin laxman dhoni raina harbhajan zaheer munaf ishant praveen rohit vijay or kohli mishra Kohli opening and Dhoni at 6?
AbhishekS Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Even an 'not completely fit' Viru is better than Mukund and Vijay, so he should be selected imo.
Rahul Dravid Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Sehwag ( Mukund showed good defense, id give him a go if Viru is not well) Gambhir Dravid Tendulkar Laxman Raina ( or Yuvi.. this is such a tough one ) Dhoni Bhajji / Mishra ( another tough one... :S) Zaheer Kumar Ishant i guess that'll be the lineup... but hell it is such a tough one to choose.. but as they say surely a good headache for the captain and coach to have.... !!
Dayman Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 So is Sehwag definitely gonna miss the first Test or two? Or are they still not sure?
