Dhoni slams Harper for poor decisions

Dhoni has no moral rights ever to talk about inept umpiring. He's one of the blokes that reckon umpires are more reliable than UDRS. Dhoni's a hypocrite, he's a top bloke but a whinger.

the only thing i agree withese guys is that the UDRS should be uniform.ICC will find it very difficult to change the mind of BCCI if hotspot is not avaiilable in the sub-continent.
The best way to convince BCCI to go for UDRS is to give Tendulkar out wrongly by design in about 5 games in a row. Even if Tendulkar doesn't agree Indian media will make sure UDRS is made permanent. :winky:

Dhoni's wrath finds Dickie Bird's support Mumbai: Mahendra Singh Dhoni's candour has won him many fans over the years. The latest in the ever-increasing list is legendary umpire Dickie Bird, who has come out in support of the Indian captain for his controversial comments at the end of the Jamaica Test. Quizzed about the poor umpiring decisions in the post-match press briefing, Dhoni said on Thursday: "If the correct decisions were made, the game would have finished much earlier and I would have been in the hotel by now." The International Cricket Council (ICC) stipulates that criticising officials could lead to a reprimand, if not a fine. Dhoni didn't name the umpire (Australia's Daryl Harper) but it won't be off the mark to say he did breach ICC's legislation. Bird supported Dhoni's decision to attack the umpiring. "Captains are entitled to pass opinions on umpires -- it is healthy for the sport. I don't see anything wrong in them judging us (umpires)," the Yorkshireman told MiD DAY over telephone on Friday. "Why should he be penalised?" asked Bird. "In years gone by, captains used to openly criticise umpiring decisions - we used to take it sportingly. These days, the match referee steps in, and that's something I am against." Bird said ICC must consider returning to the age-old system of umpires standing in a game between the tourists and a county side. "In my era, we used to have a county match against tourists before the Test series started. "That way, the captain could judge us and pass opinions to us before the start of a series. Most of us joined players at the nets too - that doesn't happen so much nowadays. I don't think there was any harm in that. That system worked brilliantly, ensured players were comfortable with an umpire," said Bird. The 78-year-old is no fan of the UDRS. "Use of technology is good for certain tough decisions, but it must not take over the game. "We wouldn't require umpires any longer if more and more technology enters the game," he said. ------------------------- There are raging debates about UDRS in the media days, some of them good and some quite meaningless. It will be quite interesting to what the outcome is.

Dicki Bird is talking about those golden days. Watch the video carefully... Not the same now.... But still I think if so many decisions go against you Captain should be given a break. jrp53wKHgb0 iXhT6P_GHWA NbpA1Ie6xGA

Also when all the other team unanimously want to go with DRS, I dont know what right one baord has to oppose it only because they have the power to do so

Dhoni's a hypocrite' date=' he's a top bloke but a whinger.[/quote'] Just because Dhoni didnt want UDRS doesnt mean he accepts bad umpiring. He has said that the way forward is for the standard of umpiring to improve and rely more on umpires instead of imperfect technology like Hawk eye which is as unreliable as bad umpiring. Harper's umpiring on the other day was pathetic to say the least and he was just calling him out on that.

The reason he reckons UDRS is not worth its weight is because the umpires are better than UDRS. He should then realize umpires are humans and do make mistakes. Dhoni is the only captain so far to criticize the umpires as well as UDRS. To me he comes across as a whinger and expects perfection all the time when he himself is not perfect. I guess he wants god to umpire but god's got no time for cricket.

If he is whinger... Your standard must be pretty high. May be godly one... I will be happy even if others(cricketers from the rest of world) met even half the standard Dhoni has set. Game will become really gentleman game once again(if it was during black and white or no picture age). We will not need hotspots and snickometer.. Look at video footages on post 84. Let me know which country/legend you want to see.. I am sure there will one for him...

I agree with you more or less. I would not call him a whinger though based on just one opinion. But on the matter of umpiring decisions, Dhoni and Tendulkar have no right to complain. None whatsoever.

to be fair, Dhoni has been extremely consistant on his views about the umpires and to an extent he is right, DRS is not a substitute to good umpiring. Umpires like Tauffel, Dar, Rauf are not questioned because of the volume of good decisions they make. the odd error is something that you can deal with. Harper, from ICC's own admission, is not in the same league

What are you even on about? Why are you bringing other players to the fore? They are not the one complaining about umpires. Your theory is my neighbour is a bigger idiot but I'm just an idiot. Just doesn't make sense. Dhoni has always been a whinger whether you agree or not I will continue to say so. He's great for Indian cricket and already a legend but his whinging has never deserted him. Whinge about the media (brought out his whole team to show his unity), whinge about the UDRS (I Bell dismissal in case), whinge about the umpires, whinge about his team mate (Sreesanth) to the media the list goes on and on.... Honestly my opinion about Dhoni is that he loves to stir up a bit in the media about things he can't control or isn't happy with. No one's perfect I agree and Dhoni isn't perfect too but he's a definite whinger. If Ponting or G Smith were at the helm and made the same comments Dhoni has made about umpires or UDRS all hell would have broken lose. 99% of the posters here would have called them whingers. On another note, Tendulkar doesn't back UDRS but you never hear a word from him about umpiring decisions even if it was his dismissal. Dhoni knows he's got the backing of the board and none will ping him so he makes these loose comments.

A word of advice. Dont mention Smith and Ponting in same line when you are talking about gentlemanly aspects of game, unless you really want someone bash Ponting. Tell me one thing. Who do you blame in centurian incident where Strauss refused a runner to Smith. Post match Smith said "Guys have got runners for cramp in the past and there needs to be a degree of consistency there." Will you call Smith a whinger or Strauss as spoiling the spirit of game? Difference is unlike Smith, Dhoni is wearing Indian Cricket badge. When he sneezes, ICC HQ gets the news... But that doesnt justifies that we all judge Dhoni on different scale. Guy has allready tried to maintain a different standard.

Since when responding to media questions being classified as "whinging".
