The era of Rohit Sharma has started, deal with it!:--D You have been saying that for 2 years now - as shown by SaneIndian. We are still waiting for the chotta Tendulkar to actually do justice to his supposed talent,
Temujin Khaghan Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 apparently rohit asked his role model yuvraj about the secret to cementing one's place in the indian team and yuvraj answered - "be hungry all the time..."
The Realist Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. Unfortunatley Sharma is likely to eat it.

Switchblade Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 "When you play for India it is a given that fans and media would talk about your performance. I have no problem with it. But yes I have worked extremely hard over my fitness in the last three months and I want this tour to count for me." Rohit Sharma is determined to build on his strong start to the tour
saneindian Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Well done to Rohit. Looks leaner and keen to do well. Hope he is consistent and does justice to all his talent. A consistent run in the ODIs here may mean a spot in the test squad as the extended member. Thats should be the target for Rohit and the motivation to pile on the runs.
Sooda Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Yeah, i was joking of course he was referring to cricketing hunger :P...but he does look fitter and leaner and after a scracthy start played well hopefully he can build on that
phaedrus Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Leaner, Fitter, Better Shane Warne feels he could be a match-winner, world beater and one of the best Indian cricketers ever. Sanjay Manjrekar is impressed by his new lean frame and feels that he has finally got his priorities right and felt the need to sacrifice and resist a few temptations. On Monday afternoon, at the Queen’s Park Oval, Rohit Sharma showed why these two men have spoken so highly of him. Sharma’s 75-ball 68 helped India defeat West Indies by four wickets on a hot and humid day. He settled down after an early moment of madness that could have ended his innings to a two-ball duck. He just about cleared the mid-off fielder as he chased a flighted leg-spinner from Devendra Bishoo. Warne and Manjrekar are not alone to talk about the immense talent that this Mumbai batsman has. Yet his fitness and attitude have been questioned. His heavy bum, bulging waist-line and almost swollen-looking face gave ample clues to his love for good life. But Sharma, these days, is on a mission to change from fat to fit as the chiselled face and missing flab suggest. He told Mumbai Mirror, “I have had to make some tough decisions. I’ve made a lot of sacrifices in the last six months or so. After I wasn’t picked for the World Cup, I knew I had to get better if I wanted to make a comeback. I knew fitness was an issue and set out finding solutions.†So what he did he really do? The 24-year-old turned to his childhood friend and Mumbai Ranji Trophy team-mate, Abhishek Nayar, for help. He said, “All credit should go to Mr Nayar. He is sort of a fitness freak. I told him that I wanted to get back into shape. He chalked out a fitness plan and diet regime for me. We would hit the gym and train for hours. "For weeks I skipped dinner. I stopped having carbohydrates and fats. There was a period when I was only having protein shakes.†He added, “Between February and the time when the IPL started, I had lost six to seven kilos. Probably I took this diet thing a bit too far as I had to administered saline during and after a couple of IPL games. But in the end, it has been worth the pain. I am feeling more energetic. Although I had a cramp towards the end of my innings (131 minutes), but that was due to excessive humidity here.†Nayar spoke at length on Rohit’s schedule. He said, “Rohit is not the sort of guy who believes in getting up early, going to the gym, running and dieting. This was not the first time that he had decided to shed some weight. At the start of the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy season too he had decided to train with me and another Mumbai team-mate Prashan Naik. “But he gave up one week into the schedule. This time too he wanted to give up after a few days. But Paul Valthaty, who was also training with us, pushed him to continue. He basically gets bored very early.†Nayar, been Sharma’s best mate for years, decided to spice it up. He revealed: “Daily we used to do different things. Some days it was power yoga, next day kick-boxing and on other days we would play tennis to break the monotonous nature of the gym sessions. We also had long skill sessions where we would bat and bowl.†Giving up good food wasn’t easy. “We decided that we would follow a strict diet plan for six days and have whatever we want on Sundays. It so happened that we were going all out that day. One Sunday, when we were about to go out for food, Rohit called me to say that he would skip that too. He was determined to prove to himself that he could resist the temptations,†said Nayar. So how fit is he now? “Much fitter,†Nayar admitted, saying, “he is now once again confident of wearing a tight tee-shirt. After the T20 game he called me to send him a fitness schedule. Don’t be surprised if you see him run shirt-less on the field very soon.†Source
sarcastic Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Hope Rohit makes the Test cut soon: Raina India's stand-in captain Suresh Raina is so disappointed with his shot-selection in the last two one-dayers against the West Indies that he plans to work hard on his batting in the nets to improve himself before the Tests. Raina was quick to admit that his shot-selection left a lot to be desired in the latter half of the series which India won 3-2 in the end after losing the fourth and final ODIs. "I needed to spend some time in the middle. Play for 10-15 deliveries," stated Raina who made a heave off the fourth delivery he faced and was out for a duck in the fifth ODI on Thursday. It was no different to his mode of dismissals in the third and fourth ODIs, where he contributed 3 and 10 runs only. "I batted well in the first two games but in the next three I had a rush. I didn't spend much time. Hopefully, I would have a couple of good sessions before the Tests with my coach and seniors. It will make me feel better before the first Test," he said. Raina, in all, made 82 runs from five innings at an average of 20.50 only. The left-hander wasn't willing to offer any excuses of captaincy pressure or the fact that he has played a lot of cricket lately. "There's no excuse. I played two bad shots in the last two games. Coming down the order you want to get on with the game," Raina said. "I had decided that if the bowler bowled up to me, I would play it over covers. I try to be positive. I have to learn so that I don't do it anymore," he added. Raina said too much cricket has never been an issue for him. "As long as I am playing for my country, I am ready for all kinds of cricket -- Twenty20, one-dayers, Tests. When I go to sleep, I really have to be satisfied with my performance," he said. Raina discounted the theory that it was short-pitched deliveries on a bouncy track which caught his batsmen napping. "Today Rohit and Virat batted well together. Earlier Shikhar and PP (Parthiv) played well in Antigua. It would have been different had we scored 30 runs more today." Raina too praised his young team, especially Rohit who was named Man of the Series for his 257 runs with three fifties and an average of 128.50. "Rohit was outstanding. He batted really well and looks ready for Test cricket. I hope he into the Test side soon. I am also glad for bowlers who took the responsibility so well in the absence of Zaheer and Sreesanth," he said.
sarcastic Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 :hmmm: :hmmm: Are you wondering if Raina is lying in front of the media?
say2chander Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Rohit should atleast be asked to stay in WI with the team. Only 6 batsman + 2 Wkeeper in squad. 1 injury and you need to pick Parthiv patel as batsman.. Shame
AbhishekS Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 :hmmm: Are you wondering if Raina is lying in front of the media? Not lying, but he would be hoping that either Rohit gets ignored by the selectors and if he is selected, he fails miserably. The spot is up for grabs and with Yuvraj's performance in the WC, it gets even more tighter.
cowboysfan Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Pujara is ahead of Raina for the test squad. We will know this series if Raina can handle test match cricket,he will be replaced by Rohit in the england squad if if he fails.
