Whats The Plan India?????

Well it seems that Dhoni and co believe the bowlers can bowl out WI in 70-75 overs. That or they're playing for a draw, which would be really lame.

WI will probably collapse inside 2 sessions but that is not really the point. What would India have done if they were in England's position in Cardiff? After Mukund's dismissal, we scored 60 runs in 30 overs. Given that we were 100 runs ahead at that point, we really should have kicked on. No, not slogging but being more positive in rotating the strike.

Kohli was told to stay at the crease a number of times by Laxman. If it were Kohli and Raina or Dhoni at the crease, the 0's would've been 1's, and the 1's would've been 2's. Anyway, I think Dhoni will look for the win. He is an aggressive and proactive captain and he'll certainly look to smash the ball around early tomorrow.

It's comical how a lot of people think India should have done this, should have done that . . . The reason India is number 1 is because as Kirsten/Dhoni have repeated a million times, the result isn't the most important thing. Following the same processes is. Anyone with any sense or slightest bit of patience will realize that this is an inexperienced team save for Bhajji/Dhoni/Lax/Dravid. So it's more important now to follow the same processes that got us to being number 1. So unless you think you know better, sit back and enjoy the match tomorrow.

nope.
He is no Ganguly, but he is notoriously proactive. He is very reluctant to set a defensive field. If a batsman hits it through a gap just once, he is already moving a fielder to that exact spot. A bit of common sense wouldn't go a miss - we wouldn't be no.1 in the world without a positive, attacking attitude to matches.

Well the point of this board is for people to think what India should or should not do and everyone knows how inexperienced the side is, that is not really an issue here. No one is suggesting they go knock the cover off the ball but they could have scored quicker without taking huge amount of risks given there was batting to come. Now all they have done is reduced the potential time to bowl WI out.

I understand the argument that maybe we could've pinched an extra 30-40 runs over the course of the day. But I think we should give the benefit of the doubt to the batsmen here. If there's one man who knows how to play the situation, it's VVS. After the close, Sky Sports showed several deliveries which showed evidence of uneven bounce. Mukund got a very nasty one. If it looks like the wicket has evened out it's because the batsmen were taking very little risks. All in all, it's very easy to say that we should've attacked more but unless you're out there, you don't know how difficult it is. I'm with Fontaine...look to get the game safe first, and then worry about going for the kill. A batting collapse takes no time at all.

Expecting Dravid/Laxman to not play their normal game that has gotten them thousands of runs and a noob like Kohli who was sitting on a king pair to start scoring quickly. You've got posters here outguessing an in form Dravid and a guy who's one of the finest players under pressure in Laxman. Some idiot even called it ineptitude saying we should have slogged in the last session. Like I said, comical. On the other hand, you could just sit back and enjoy another classic batting display by Dravid and now Laxman while he puts India in an unbeateable position.

What hurt us today was the slow outfield. I haven't seen a slower outfield than this one ever. We must have lost 30-40 runs due to the outfield. But I agree with Show_Stopper that we should have been a bit more positive in the last 10-15 overs. Aggressive batting doesn't mean going for 4s and 6s every ball but surely with a 200+ lead with only 3 wkts down we should have aimed for a run rate of around 4-4.5 instead of 2. The 30 additional runs even at a cost of a wkt or two would have been much more useful and would have helped us declare a lot earlier tomorrow morning.

This is is why it's hard to see India dominating world cricket like Australia. Australia would go all out for the win, even if there hint of a chance they will go for it 100 percent. I absolutely love India when they are up against it but they never push hard for the win when they have a chance and instead just settle for the draw as they are 1-0 up even though they could potentially win the series.

Sorry I was just hoping we might go for a win that is all. Laxman is well capable of scoring at more than 40 SR - in fact that is his natural game- and I was hoping Kohli would score quicker once he settled in as I pointed out in an earlier post. Very happy to see he fought through a tough spell though, I am aware that the bounce was hardly true so it was far from easy. Just maybe there were more runs to be had today and weve lost valuable time. dosent matter now.

What if we tried to accelerate and lost wickets and collapsed? Would have given WI an opening to win the match and would put us under undue pressure heading into the final test. We are playing with an inexperienced side and are already 1-0 up so its natural we think of safety first approach.Whats the difference btw winning a series 2-0 and 3-0 ? Nothing apart from meaningless points and ranking.Only thing that matters is India winning the series and younger players progressing and not getting worked up over meaningless points. As for someone mentioning Australia they were one of the greatest sides ever and it isnt hard to have a positive attitude. They can always rely on Macgrath and Warne so it wasnt hard to set competitive targets with those bowlers in the side.Wheree are those positive attitudes now?

It's been 4 innings and the pitches and the new bats havent been able to score over 250 runs consistently in the series, we shouldn't ask them to accelerate like crazy. They played fine. It's our bad luck that we are short of time. We did well to put whatever score we have. If we get a good decent 80 overs, We should still be able to bowl windies out.

Yes of course they had Warne and Mcgrath and we don't, but that isn't what differentiates us from them. They started every Test match with the sole objective of winning and every player played like it, they would push for the win when they have the chance and we have a good chance now. You can make excuses for this test but there are countless examples of India being too scared too lose and playing cautiously for draws.

We're playing for a draw since we've 1-0 up. :proud: WI is capable of folding in record time so they might be banking on that.

Shameful tactics from India.! Another 50 runs moe would've placed India in commanding position and they would have one full day to bowl WI out :wall: No wonder such tactics make test cricket boring
