No Wonder Test Cricket is Dying...

For that India would have to loose it's 6 wickets in 12-13 overs on a day when a no 10 batted for 37 overs! That is rarer than a team going for win in last test when series is won.
If u have watched test cricket u would know that defending on a tough wicket far far easier than trying to score at a run rate of 6.And collapses are hard to stop once a couple of wkts go down and when panic sets in.Did u watch the 1st Srl vs England test? There is no guarentee that sort of scenario wouldnt have happened here. Why would anyone risk drawing a series when we are comfortably winning it.No one does that not even the great Aussies some here keep referring to.

Yeah, that's why I said that you're trying to avoid the worst situation that can happen in the cricket. If teams start fearing the worst scenarios, then no one would declare even at a 400+ score because such scores have been chased down in past. What happened to SL was one of most disappointing defeats. You're are really expecting that team won't be able to avoid such defeat and hence don't go for it? It doesn't matter what Australia did.

Thats because its for broadcaster's revenue. There is a reason why those tests are called dead rubbers. No one cares about the results in those tests.
If no one cares, why brodcast:giggle: There is another easy way.whoever wins first test , should never declare and keep on batting for 2-3 days, so that other teams will not get a chance to play two innings...Dont declare if you have already taken a lead...afterall a series victory is all that matter, no?

Well we did declare with 280 on the board didnt we? The point is this is the deciding test.In the 1st or 2nd tests u may try something adventurous as u still have time to come back in the series. But most sensible captains wouldn't try to be adventurous in the deciding test of the series. Its stupidity trying to win 2-0 and then drawing the series 1-1

If we had lost the third game, then definitely we don't deserve to be number one, because even Bangbros would have survived the last hour of play with 7 wickets in hand.

Seriously what are u on about? Do u really believe the same amount of crowds and eye balls are there for dead rubbrs similar to active tests in a series. If u believe that then u are clueless. Why do u think the the 4 tests in the ashes series drew large crowds unlike the final test last year? U cant wont cancel it because poeple would watch it a lesser extent but that doesnt mean it is a result is relevant or anyone seriously worried about oa dead rubber.Fans watch dead rubber ODIs too does that mean they are meaning ful too?

A smart coach or captain would always assess the situation..! If there is 50% chance of losing, I'd have done the same ( with 1-0 up)...But when there is 5% chance of losing, it is inexplicable why they chickened out? In the worst case, if 5% had come true, I'd have happily supported Dhoni for trying...

Why care about meaningless rankings.Only thing that matters is winning the series not caring about pointless rankings. How many were talking about rankings when we drew the series in Australia in 2004? Only media frenzy has caused this stupid obsession with rankings. We should care about winning the series and laying foundations for future by giving chance to youngsters. Not bothering about meaningless rankings.

Seriously u wonder how many actually watched the match yesterday and are slagging of our team here.

Yeah' date=' you sure watched the match, but didn't realize Dhoni scored 74 runs in the first innings:hysterical:[/quote'] How did Dhoni fare in the whole series? He scored once one good innings in the whole series yeah great form isn't it? And now he can take out the WI bowlers with such ease on a 5th day wicket isnt it?

You said he is terribly out of form :hysterical: We would never know how he would have played had he batted in 4th innings? 'If ifs and buts were pots and pans, there would have been no tinkers' : sidhu

Look, they CHICKENED OUT.. I can understand shaking hands when 5-7 overs remaining and the target is un achievable.. They could've sent a pinch hitter to have a go. The DRAW specialists are always there to lean on. In present days situations, the last match of the series (even if it's a DEAD RUBBER match) has it's own importance to carry over the momentum to the next series.. The fact of the matter is that we allowed WI to score a huge total (even by their own standards) inthe second innings. The chase was never on to be honest. Having a run rate hovering between 2.5 to 3 runs an over in not good. As I said the captain must've thrown in the towel long back..

Nah, I was awake late night and was watching star cricket while posting here. rolleyes.gif I'm not saying that Laxman should have scored quickly. I'm saying that one pinch hitter could have been tried. Seriously you wonder how people think that others are able to comment about the match without watching the match.

Test cricket is dying? How? Not the first time a test has ended in a draw in similar circumstances.Teams will be playing 100+ tests in the next 8-9 years, test cricket dying indeed!! What happened yesterday was an one off and should not be looked at more than that. A tough series ahead, 1-0 lead in the bag, 3 wickets gone, rest of the batting (Kohli, MSD etc) not in good form, final session of a long series, it could have been tricky. Yes they could have batted for some more overs, but to question the intent of the team is silly IMO. The same team made a sporting declaration, nearly won the last test, the same team chased 200+ in 45 overs against the Aussies and 250+ against the Lankans on the last day or 387 in the 4th innings. That shows the mentality of this team. Would the Aussie or Windies teams missing 5 key players in a similar situation go for it? I have my doubts.

IMO India did okay with tactics as well as batting till Raina's dismissal. I mean it was justified whatever route they took till that point. Dravid at #3 was imo correct decision as India lost a wkt off the first ball of the innings and plenty of overs and runs to play. Dravid-Vijay partnership was good. Consumed overs,, made runs at decent pace. I think India was pretty much safe of not losing the test after this partnership. Raina at #4 was a good call,, left-hander (as bishoo was bowling) and aggressive. 86 off 15 overs was not the point at which India got it wrong, i think it was 4 overs before that. When Raina got out, we needed 94 off 19 overs with 7 wkts standing. Really at this point,, we could have afforded to lose 2 more wkts in search of quick runs and still have plenty of wkts to comfortably draw the test. That was the time for Kohli and Dhoni to come and have a dash,, with Laxman at#7 as an insurance. At the beginning of the day, India had no business of drawing this test. One of the most disappointing days of watching Indian cricket in the recent times.

WOW a lot of people really don't understand test cricket and it's fine little nuances. This whole series both teams have struggled to score at 3RPO, and now just because there is a target in sight we should be able to comfortably score at 4+ an over? Well it ain't that easy, there is a reason it is called TEST cricket, that is because it tests your abilities as a cricketer to the maximum and you can't just go out there and slog gloriously to victory at the flick of a switch. Playing conditions are completely different from T20s and ODIs and the whole mindset is on a different level. Throughout history of more than 100 years teams have scored at around 2.75 runs per over, there is a reason for that. If we had been 1-0 down in the series we would have had to go for it, but because we were up there was no need to risk that lead. Any test series victory is to be cherished, whether it is vs Bang at home or vs Aus away. I'm very happy to have won a test series in the West Indies.
