Yesterday was the most awful days play i saw in my whole life. When there was 180 to win from 47 overs I thought gosh we have an exciting match on our hands. I woke up till 2.15 am IST and when it was 86 to win from 90 balls I thought the match was very exciting. And what do they do? Walk off the field.5 days of cricket has come to a tame end. Thank You India and West Indies Test Series. A million :facepalm: to you!

i agree with deepak_sach. this was 1 of the worst batting performance i have seen from india. what was the need to send in dravid@3. raina/dhoni should have come in at 3 with dravid coming in at 6. had we been 30/3 or something, then playing for a draw was understandable, but we gave it up so soon even though it was just the no.8 team we were playing against dhoni has got to be the worst ever captain of all time. for a player who doesnt even merit a spot in the test xi, we give him the captaincy of the test team :WTF:

Going for 86 from 90 with the series already in the bag and 3 wickets down is about as stupid as it gets. Goal of a series is to win it, not try to act all macho and fall flat on your face.

Rankings are a by product of that. Yes, a collapse is very easily possible in test cricket and that too if a few more quick wickets fell we are down to tailenders. With all the time lost due to rains, and with two second inning centuries from their side, a draw is to be expected.

It was ridiculous to see them not even trying. WI in their prime were never forgiving. They would not have "settled" for 1-0. They would have gone for it... ditto Aussies when they were number 1. If India want to stay number 1 for long, they need to add a killer instinct that never forgives opponents. At the moment, that is missing. On a separate note, ICC should just do away with the 15-mandatory overs rule. They should play all Test Matches fully. People pay to get tickets and broadcasters pay for television coverage. Everybody should get their moneys worth by having a full day's play, however likely a draw is.

See if we had played 2-3 overs quietly, the RRR will have reached say 6.5, then we could have tried to get 6-7 an over and then if a wicket falls in the process, we could have played cautiously and then burst in the last 5 overs with 9-10 an over. Even then if a wicket falls, we could have saved the game. So I think, there was lack of intent in our batting and if we had won the game, it would have been 2-0, a massive series win with the 2nd Test, not going our way because of the weather.

ohh... there were many instances of that! They went after India's target in the famous Kolkata (Laxman's Test) Test match. They made many other sporting declarations. I remember a match in which Mark Butcher got a hundred in the 4th innings to chase down a total set by Australia after a sporting declaration. They also won a number of matches with sporting declarations. They chased a 4th innings target quite similar to the one we were set today, in 2006 against England at Adelaide.

Pitch was flat but slow and scoring was not easy. Staying on the pitch was not tough but scoring yes. Both teams scored slowly. It was not a T20 or ODI where you had field restrictions and wide facility. It was a test match in a 5th day track and there is a very fine line between being brave and looking fool.

Some people think scoring 180 off 47 overs yesterday is just as easy as scoring those runs on a patta wicket against VRV Singh and Pankaj Singh in an IPL game. Yesterday's wicket was a fifth day track and a slow one too. It means the ball wont come on to the bat quickly for the batsmen to play shots. That's why many batsmen struggled to time the ball. The maximum rate that could be achieved is 3 runs an over and with Bishoo bowling around leg to cramp up the batsmen and Rampaul bowling wide and with the field on the boundary, its virtually impossible to keep up to the scoring rate. Have some sense before you write something. India would have won easily before tea had they dismissed the tail enders cheaply but as always they couldnt do that.

Its all easy in talks. You think a wicket falls and team will not have pressure. very coming batsmen will have pressure with fielders attacking in closing positions and Edwards and Bishoo bowling from the two ends. Every falling wicket will increase pressure and then another wicket, and if you try to score runs, there are not field restrictions like in ODI, most of the fielders will be saving boundaries. Understand this difference as well. It was easy to stay on that pitch, scoring at a good pace was not. You need extraordinary batsman like Sehwag or Lara who can play fearlessly in these situations, but that too does not work all the time.
