gult
You want lame? Here is lame : http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/29264.html?class=1;spanmin2=01+Jan+2005;spanval2=span;template=results;type=bowling For the last 54 tests, more than half his career, more than 6 years we have a 35+ averaging and 75 striking spinner in our team and he has been 'leading' our attack after Kumble's retirement. :hysterical: :(( Those are very bad numbers for a front-line spinner. I think he too knows he isn't good enough, so concentrated more on his batting. And that has been saving him for quite some time. I'm sure that won't be the case if he fails in this series. Trichromatic
Last year he averaged 40 with SR of 85 in 12 freaking matches. Since 2006, he has been averaging 37 in test cricket. Compare that with his first half of the career when he was averaging 26 or 27. Difference of 10! :omg: Those are the numbers. In the game, he looks even worse than what those numbers suggest. Problem is that even he gets a wicket, he doesn't look like taking it. It will look like batsman has given him the wicket. He hardly seems to be troubling the batsman and getting him out. That's what part-timers are in ODIs. They bowl with idea of restricting runs. Sometimes they do well and go for 4+ runs an over and pick an odd wicket. Bhajji looks like a similar bowler nowadays. The Realist
He is finished period. Has been in decline for a while but it is terminal now. Even the opposing team don't rate him, he's never talked about as a threat and in fact most teams are quite happy he plays as its easy runs. There has to be a serious discussion as to why this regular under-performer is ALWAYS picked. Link to comment
Crookbond
Harbhajan must go all out for greatness - Harsha Bhogle Read More : http://es.pn/pbRoZm In recent times he has looked troubled. True, there have been patches of brilliance, but far too many inconsequential batsmen have played him with ease. The offbreak that pitches outside off fizzes in a little more politely. Far too often the ball is pinged onto the pads with square leg for support. Maybe it is the need to contain, maybe those are the demands of 20-over cricket, but those are for simple men with little to offer: those who must fall back to the demands of the batsman, those who must pay obeisance to the bat. The crafty spinner makes an occasional concession but reverts to setting the rules. In most contests between bat and ball, the cannier must control. Harbhajan can be the cannier, but too often he lets the batsman play that role. Link to comment
Shehezaada
i'm usually a big bhaj supporter but he really looked listless out there on Days 1 and 2. Hope he brings it at the Oval Link to comment
The Outsider
Pretty soon the few straws that Bhajji supporters used to clutch to would be gone too like how Swann gets to bowl on helpful and bouncy tracks while Bhajjo bowls on pattas and Bhajji being in the top 10 of ICC rankings is only a matter of time. Crookbond
I am not supporting Harbhajan here but in the commentary box David Lloyd said this : I believe Harbhajan is going to have a massive influence in this series. Not even Shane Warne has done well at Lords in the first innings. I will wait for my opinion till India gets some runs on board and we then have Harbjahan bowling with 500 runs at his back. dragonfly
bhajji is the biggest fraud to happen to indian cricket Link to comment
The Realist
I am not supporting Harbhajan here but in the commentary box David Lloyd said this : Empty words. So for Dartbhajan to have any chance of performing the rest of the team have to rack up scores of 500+? Embarassing. Link to comment
CSK Fan
Bhajji supporters are obviously smarter than they look. Not one took Outsider's bet Link to comment
Midfielder
Bhajji will do fine. If catches are held the storyline would be different. One thing is consistent , your hate. Link to comment
Trichromatic
I am not supporting Harbhajan here but in the commentary box David Lloyd said this : Well, 500 on board would be good situation for him to bowl. But 270-5 wasn't that bad either. That was the situation when he could have bowled better and it would have been effective because English players especially their after KP don't play spin that good like others. That was the situation to step up and get the things going for him. If he didn't get wicket even by bowling decent line and length, it would have been enough to create pressure. Link to comment
Midfielder
English team was under no pressure at that stage. They knew they were not going to lose at that point. Link to comment
punjabi_khota
Bhajji supporters are obviously smarter than they look. Not one took Outsider's bet As good as Bhajji is, it is hard to see him do one better than Kumble ever did in England (which the bet meant). :giggle: Link to comment

Silva
Well lets not forget in south africa Bhajji got taken to the cleaners in his first innings as well and ended up being our best bowler in that series and almost won the 3rd test for us. So I agree with david lloyd its too early to judge. Plus we only had 3 specialist bowlers which takes alot of pressure off the opposing batsman. But by the way what have Ojha or mishra done to deserve a chance ahead of bhajji? Lets face it India has crappy spin bowling depth. Its best to direct criticism at the domestic structure rather than come up with these idiotic conspiracy theories about cronyism. He was well established player before dhoni even made his debut and the likes of Ojha and mishra have gotten plenty of chances to prove their worth ahead of him but failed to do so. Link to comment
