Karan114 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I think the contention that Yuvraj hasn't got a decent run in tests isn't valid...that is more than what most youngsters get. During 07 Aus tour...a veteran like Dravid had to open so that Yuvraj could open. we all know what happened then. the problems aren't psychological...they are technical. Absolutely...34 Test matches ffs.
veer Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 i would say drop mukund and bring yuvi in as opener.. mukund is still struggling to post a big score so why not give a chance to more experienced one..

Captain of Bhangra Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Raina. I said this before the Taunton match btw...

Why are you that eager to see Yuvraj dude? i know he has this reputation from ODIs and T-20's but the guy can't play test cricket. Its time people realised that. The guy averages 17 outside the subcontinent. Really doesn't deserve sympathy. His test career should have ended when he fail in WI in 2006 or atmost in 2007 when he failed in Aus. We're all too familiar with the pattern now...UV does well in ODIs----UV gets recalled into the Test team----if the test series is in the subcontinent, does moderately well to hang onto his spot----the moment the team steps out of the subcontinent UV----people crib about his technique-----gets dropped. Rinse and repeat.
Show_stopper Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Mukund didn't set the world on fire alright ( averaging around 24 for 3 tests) but that is sure as hell better than what UV managed in the 2006 tour against the mighty attack consisting of Corey Collymore, Ian bradshaw and Pedro Collins.

I trust Yuvi more than mukund in these conditions against this strong rival,

You never know with Dhoni as he might push for Yuvi
Ultimate_Game Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Very tough call as Yuvi was the guy instrumental in winning us the world cup and before the WI series would have been a favorite to get a spot in the test team. However, Raina's recent form in WI and his 100 in the tour game virtually guarantees Raina a spot in the team for the first couple of tests at least.
Ranjha Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Ofcourse yuvi...yuvi was sure of a test spot in windies but for injury..Raina did well in his absence but injured player comes back..Tough luck for Raina.
Cricketics Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Raina has EARNED it. He deserves it. Consistent performance in Windies and now a century in touring game. You can't ask for more. Goes without saying. Raina is a surety.
Ranjha Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Oye paaji' date=' Raina has hit a 100 when most failed..it would be unfair on him if he doesn't get selected, UV will also get his chance :icflove:[/quote'] It was a tour match.
Ranjha Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yuvi is in great touch from the wc and his bowling will be imp too..he was sure to make it if not for the injury.
Ranjha Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Still...that 100 is a confidence booster ( nothing to do with Chawla though )..and I wish he gets another century in the 1st Test at Lords :two_thumbs_up: I don't think Raina will play the first test if I'm correct..let's see what dhoni decides.
rkt.india Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yuvi is in great touch from the wc and his bowling will be imp too..he was sure to make it if not for the injury. Yuvraaj was not sure to make test 11. Actually no one waw sure at 6 neither Raina nor Uyvi or any one else. It was WI series which woulf have settled it whether Raina, Yuvi, or Kohli. Yuvi did not play and was dropped from test side in NZ series, Kohli failed, and Raina performed So, it is Raina who was sure and Yuvi had to perform in this warm up game to show that he is in form, but he could not. So it is Raina who will get his chance. Raina may not be as talented as Yuvi, but he is more hard working guy than yuvi.
saneindian Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Not picking Raina after the series in WI and then this knock would not just be unjust but a foolish step as well. Yuvraj may be regretting the decision to skip the WI test series now.

Yuvraj may be regretting the decision to skip the WI test series now. At the time he decided to skip the series over "lung infection" I was convinced it was due to not being given captaincy of the ODI side for that series. I didn't buy the medical certificate argument
