Obviously there is much more than numbers but lets be honest the majority of voters would have been 15 year old indian kids like deepak sach with nothing better to do. Cricket is more than the numbers. He has been a lone warrior of most part of his career. Imagine, the oppononents just focusing on playing him out as there would be little pressure from the other end with the new ball. You need to see his record in places like Australia. He competited pretty well against the best team of his time, i.e. the WI .... For batting, you just have to see his 100 in SA against those quicks. His fielding was legendary As an all-rounder, I would rate him at the top. If I were focusing on bowling more, then Hadlee, who was probably the best bowler of that lot. But I would be happy with a Botham and Imran too because at the end of the day, they are all considered to be amongst the top all-rounders in the history of the game. I would add Vinoo Mankad to that list too, along with Miller from Australia. All of them great players.

Bowling is good enough to have a batting all-rounder instead of a bowling all-rounder. As a bowler, Imran probably had a longer peak but you have to realize that Imran's career was in two parts. First where he was more of a bowler and towards the end, he focused more on batting

If you think that someone was very good because of great support from other players then shouldn't such players make into the team instead of those whom you think are good but couldn't achieve that much because they didn't enjoy much support.

If Munaf Patel was on the short list he would probably make it. Dude, we've seen a gazzilion lists in the past where unknown, undeserving Brits made it to the Top 10s. Did we whine about it?

If people have problem with it, don't read. Yeah, it's a fans' list. Everyone has different opinions and those players are in the list which are considered as best by most fans. No one can say that list is wrong. But still people can discuss it. There is nothing wrong with the discussion. It's not necessary that those who comment on the list should have problem with it.

Such innings show how freely he batted. Once he scored a half-century in half and hour.

(as much as I love Kapil Dev..!) Agree with Sobers but why Greenidge ahead of Sehwag? Sehwa is a unique cricketer and has averaged 50+ at a SR of nearly 80 and that too as an opener!!! That's a game-breaker any team would love to have.
Serani Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Kapil Dev has a similar record to Freddie Flintoff who is called "over rated" on this website, Meanwhile nobody has even mentioned Jacques Kallis who like Sobers has a record which makes Kapil look like a school boy. Imran Khan and Botham both have better bowling and batting averages than Kapil.
