Just for being in limelight he takes totally opposite view. WC is the premier event in any sports. And winning WC as captain is supposed to be mediocre.It is like India has won so many WC in cricket, hockey, football.

bajrang Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 even dhoni follows football. and so does every major cricketer i follow on twitter.not a big deal. unless india pakistan becomes giant in football i dont see it going to number one position. and honestly football is even biiger tamasha then ipl. you tap on someones shoulder and they go flying on the ground, twitching in horrible agony as if someone has just performed vescotomy on them without local anesthesia. then there is constant arguing with their umpire/referee making elaborate hand gesture.you have players who are purposely trying to injure one another, receiving red/yellow cards. it is perfect mixture of drama and sports , it is bound to be more popular.

He was maybe a better keeper than Dhoni, but not as much better. Dhoni has displayed lightning quick reflexes when keeping against spinners. Its only his keeping against pace bowling that is a problem.

adi B Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 it does not matter to me...i began watching football from 2001 regularly when i was 9 years old, i watched epl,la liga sometimes in sky sports,champ league nd of course fifa wc nd euro...but it didnt make me feel losing love for cricket...i love nd will always love cricket, its in ur heart nd head, u cant lose motivation to watch it or support ur country...one has to give time to both sports nd manage b/w both the sports, actually i manage my time somehow nd watch cricket,football,tennis,hockey (if telecasted) ... i am a die hard fan of sports nd i cannot lose motivation to watch any of these, i always enjoy watching them..

Its not a minor thing, but Dhoni is not as bad at regulation keeping as you make him out to be. He is not a Dropmal or a Dropthiv. Yes he doesnt go for those extravagant dives, but he does a decent job. If Mongia is a better keeper than him, the gap is 19/20 ka aankda not by a great margin

Like numb mentioned, he is one of the finest LOI cricketer the nation has produced and also better than many previous WK-Bats of India in test cricket.

But that does not mean he can say whatever he feels like about one of the greatest captain and Wk-Bat India has ever produced.

Afterall, it is cheaper to play in terms of equipment, easier to play in terms of location, better duration and perhaps more "fun" to play. However, we do not have the scouting and incentive structure in place to capture any potential good players in the making. You cannot have a career like you havei n cricket. With IPL there will be even more interest in cricket. There is no way in hell Football can overtake cricket. Indians follow all sports for years. Tennis, Basketball, Football, F1. They just don't play any of those. Cricket is the only one game that suits us. Guys like Ashwin who follows manchester united religiously will not run for 10 minutes on a football field without collapsing.

Football has been played all over India long before EPL or any televised foreign club football came along. In my opinion everybody who has any interest in sports loves to play football. I am not saying everybody likes to watch football on TV, but that's hardly the only yardstick of a game's popularity. In fact I think it is all the more creditable to us desis that we love football despite being extremely bad at it at professional level.

Yeah, I agree he is one of the finest ODI cricketer from India - that doesn't make him much better than mediocre because even though Bevan was one of the finest ODI cricketer he was still mediocre compared to a Steve Waugh.
