Look at it this way, if it weren't for migrants from India, you would still be eating bland stuff like porridge, pedigree or whatever else that was common there. Its because of us that you can try the jalfrezis and the tandoori chicken. Also, if it weren't for the migrants, you'd still be listening to insipid music from the Beetles and Elton John. Now you can groove to Punjabi MC, B Sagoo, Sukhbir and Apache Indian. Freddy Mercury too. Wasn't it one of your literary greats, GB Shaw, who said that variety is the spice of life? Not aware of any australians or sri lankans currently that are not born in their respective country. Even other sports look at owen hargraves he played for England in the FIFA world cup and was born in Canada and lived here for 18 years. Very sad England can't rely even on English born captains Kp Nassar Greig Etc.

They probably feel both English and Indian, for instance. And their sporting choices are not a negation of their "other" identity. People assume that if they choose one country, that they have therefore turned their back on the other. That's not always the case - it's just that they cannot choose both countries. You must also realize that support of a cricket side is no test of patriotism. They just don't go together. I know a Sikh British guy who ( and his family) always support India no matter what in India England games. He says that his grand fathers, father and his brother and cousins have all served in the British army and bled for Britain. For many generations. He finds it extremely offensive that he is termed unpatriotic just because of the cricket team he chooses to shout for. And I'm sure there must be many like him. He does support the English football team though. Another reason could be that you guys had such a crappy team for the last 50 odd years, that people wouldn't necessarily want to associate themselves with a weak side. @ Lurker: I agree with the gist of your arguement. However, I think it has to be taken case to case. If you were an Iranian immigrant scraping the barrel in London and if Iran came to play a football game vs the English, I think that you're perfectly entitled to support the country of your birth over the country that's given you a better life... Just my 2 cents.

Just my 2 cents. I quiet agree with that. As stated earlier, it will always be dicey for first generation immigrant. SOmebody who has supported Tendulkar all his life will not start supporting Cook the moment he lands in London. But I would think his/her kids would have no such dilemma.

I like England too, but after India. Playing vs England, I want India to absolutely destroy them, but that's probably more to shut some people up.

If you are on dole or some asylum seeker, yeah you probably want to wrap yourself in the new flag goddamnit.

How about my point of Hargraves playing in 2006 for England? He went didnt even play club there he was playing for Munich. Its pathetic they rely so heavily on foreign players and need SAFFERS to captain them! India can take pride in fielding an Indian team!

For an average Brit who may not have anything against you, to read that kinda statement - I want India to destroy England - even though you happen to be English by most legal accounts, would not go down probably very well. Not very different if a bunch of Bangladesh migrants who became legal citizens go harping on how Bangla Tigers should destroy India I would think.

Youre argument makes absolutely no sense. On the one hand you are saying if you are born in country A you should always support country A. However in the case of KP and Hargraves who were both born in SA and Canada lived there the majority of their lives you think they should be repatriated and play for the country one of their parents come from. This is just off the top of my head i could get you another 15 examples of players from India Ireland Wales etc all that played for England. Hypocritical at all? Oh and Tony the grovelling Grieg was 100% south african.
