What happened to the pessimistic England fans that I've seen all my life? I remember the 1997 Ashes when Australia were bowled out for 100 and England made close to 500 (Nas made 207). My English mate at the end of England's first innings still felt that Australia were the favourites and England had about 10% chance of winning.
This is the first time in my life that I feel we have a world beating side in Tests

You do have a pretty good side. But for some reason it doesn't still convince me. I am not sure how they will fair when they are tourist in India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi. Even New Zealand for that matter. You guys did destroy new Australian team in Australia. Full marks on that. Not many teams have won there in recent history. But when I think again, this Bresnan guy reminds me of Harmison. I see his career fading out like how Harmison's did. He looks to be in good touch rite now, but often gets ordinary. How Harmison used to look suddenly. I might be wrong, but as of now. Thats the only thing i make of him

Oh I agree. We do need to go to other countries and win, or bat out draws so the home country fails to beat us in their own conditions

If anything it would do one good thing for the English fans from an Indian fan's perspective - you will appreciate the fact that India got to the number 1 rank by being good at Test cricket, something that is not acknowledged. FWIW, I think the number 1 team at the end of the year will neither be England nor India. In all likelihood it will be SA. I was looking at the rankings predictor thingy. Even if India wins against Aus 2-1, and beats WI 2-0 it will remain at 121 points. England does not play until March 2012 versus SL in SL in which I'd think SL will at least draw the series if not win it. Whereas SA plays Aus in 2 Tests at home...can expect at least a 1-0 win there. And play SL in a 3 Test series at home...can expect a 2-0 win in that one. So by the year ends, SA would be number 1 at 125 points while England will be at 121 and India may go below 121 if they don't beat WI at least 2-0. England can get to number 1 and hold on to it for the next five months only if they manage to beat India by at least 2 Tests in this series.. But anyway it will only be for a period of five months at the max. SA will be the table toppers at the end of the season unless they manage to do an SA-special choke against Aus and SL at home and NZ away.

I am hoping that Ind will be able to turn things but so far our approach to the series has been disappointing .... it's not the losses that bothers but the manner in which we played ....the preparation, strategy, team selection, captaincy, .... :((

The OP is pretty brave considering his last thread on this test series http://indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=268918
I still think if our fullstrength batting line up shows up then this bowling attack is no better than the attack we hammered in 2007,We have batted poorly this time last time we had tour of ireland then we had 2 practise matches and did well ,

First two test matches were best chances for India to perform. Lord was mainly flat-pitch and TB was not that bad as they made it. Next two venues will be tougher. Maybe Indians will like Oval, but even two draws or 1 win-1 draw will be good for the team.

Jimmy is a far better bowler now, as is Tremlett and Broad is coming along nicely thanks

Indians have never performed well in first test match on any pitch ,so it was kind of expected but second test was a dampner as we literally gave away the match ,but i expect us to improve particularly our batting and we have won at perth and durban against bowling attacks much stronger than english attack ,with swann not picking upwickets we just need a good start .

jimmy anderson was at his peak at that time he was bowling faster than now ,also even if they have improved we also have improved ,we have batted badly no doubt ,they have bowled well all credit to english bowlers but my opinion is we have faced better attacks than england they all average over 30 that too bwoling in helpful conditions ,we just have to attack them .

But in both Tests to date, you have had the best of the conditions and been stuffed

When you mention Perth and Durban, I doubt that confidence of team would be as down as it is now. Certainly there is no way to perform poorer than this. They can only improve. But winning next two matches will be very tough.

But in both Tests to date' date=' you have had the best of the conditions and been stuffed[/quote'] May be ,But the picthes have got quicker as the days have progressed ,in every match we got theri top order out cheaply ,but struggled with 9,10,jack frankly broad and swann were lucky to score 70 odd runs in the ist innings of 2nd test ,it happens very rarely in those conditions again we had just 3 bowlers and you expect your spinner to take some wickets against tail.We have doen well batting first in any condition as pressure is less ,we should look to bat first wherever posiible.

I think spin might come in to it
