TOI suspects Bhajji will not be selected for the ODI series and Rohit and Papa will be making a comeback. TOI article: After a series of mediocre shows with the ball, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will come under the scanner when the selectors - headed by Kris Srikkanth - pick the teams this weekend for the five-match ODI series and the one-off Twenty20 match against England. Indications are that the ODI team will have two slow bowlers and five pacers and in the fight for the two spinners' slots, offie R Ashwin and leg-spinner Amit Mishra are ahead of Harbhajan. Harbhajan contracted an abdomen injury during the second Test against England and has been ruled out of remaining two Tests. But the off-spinner has been criticized by experts for the missing sting in his tweakers of late. The logic behind dropping Bhajji from the ODI team would be to help him rediscover his mojo and subsequently make a strong comeback into the national team. Like it happened with Yuvraj Singh last year when he was dropped from the ODI and the Test squads, but came back strongly to guide India to World Cup triumph. In the pace department, don't expect surprises. Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Praveen Kumar look sure to make the team. S Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma and Vinay Kumar will fight for the other two slots. Eight batsmen are expected to be picked for the series and the main contentious point will be the availability of Yuvraj Singh. The left-hander is expected to be fit for the ODI series, but he will undergo rehab at home before a final call on his fitness is taken. The Indian team management is keen that Yuvraj returns for the ODI series. In case, he is not fit, a back-up middle-order batsman is likely to be picked. In that case, Manoj Tiwary and Ajinkya Rahane should fancy their chances. Even Yusuf Pathan could get lucky once again. It has been learnt that Rohit Sharma will be back in the ODI fold as he impressed on the West Indies tour. Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and skipper MS Dhoni will walk into the team. An extra-wicketkeeper in Parthiv Patel maybe picked as a back up for Dhoni. Parthiv should get the nod ahead of Wridhdhiman Saha.

Also he looks more attacking than Mishra, plus the age is on his side. He needs to be groomed. When Jadeja can get so many chances, at least Chawla deserves a few more, he is quite a useful batsman too.
rkt.india Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I think Zak, PK, Ishant, and Sreeshanth should not be picked for different reasons. PK and Ishant should be rested as WI series coming in November. Sreeshanth is useless in ODIs. Zak may be picked, but I would like if he says bye-bye to ODIs and concentrate more on fitness and tests. We want him to be ready for WI series and then especially Australia tour in December.

Then you would rather play a batsman and have raina as fifth bowler?Its logical but dhoni hasnt used raina as his fifth bowler to bowl the full quata of 10 ovrs.Maybe kholi will chip in 4-5 ovrs?
daryl1985 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Rayudu deserves a shot ahead of Tiwary in my opinion. What about a recall for Jadeja? I think he would be a decent replacement if Yuvraj is not available but it would mean pushing Dhoni and Raina up the order.
