amiret Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 was better than these current bunch of jokers ranked #1 . KD Karthik W Jaffer R Dravid* SR Tendulkar SC Ganguly VVS Laxman RP Singh MS Dhoni A Kumble :hatsoff: Z Khan S Sreesanth We fought hard in 2007 and dominated 2 out of 3 tests. Since 2007 we have regressed while England has made vast improvements.
Fontaine Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 was better than these current bunch of jokers ranked #1 . We fought hard in 2007 and dominated 2 out of 3 tests. Since 2007 we have regressed while England has made vast improvements. Not too much of difference in the Indian team. The real difference has been the England team that used to collapse routinely in 2007 and wouldn't get past 300 if KP didn't score big. I think the current side just looks old and tired, specifically players like Bhajji, Dhoni and even SRT.
Cricketics Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Easy two put old line up and compare it. The real difference so far is poor Indian performance, and for English spectators delight, good English bowling performance.
akshayxyz Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 one or two mishaps have linear effect. But when too many things go wrong, it gets compounded exponentially. Things that have been different, that I can quickly recall from top of my mind. Against India: 1. ZAK 2. Practically useless Bhajji. 3. Sehwag 4. Injured Gambhir 5. Sick SRT in Lords. 6. Different coach. For England: 7. First choice line up for English. 8. 3 match practice against top class side - Lanka on same home grounds, leading into this series. 9. #1 ranking in sight - opportunity at home...Biggest motivating factor. Above all - Ganguly in commie-box....................... j/k

Above all - Ganguly in commie-box....................... j/k I have a funny feeling that sick SRT in Lords was a bullshit media excuse of Sachin not performing well there. He has never done well there, so media just made up an excuse for him not peforming again in that stadium. However, he has performed well at Nottingham, but failed there too. And he is failing again in Brimingham.....sorry to say but Sachin is going through a terrible phase. To me he is just bored and doesn't seem to care. It's time these senior players (high 30s) voluntarily retire by mid next year. Get young players in the squad and prepare them for bigger challenges ahead. Let's face it, we are going to lose the #1 spot and go down to #3 or #4. We aren't going to get that back anytime soon. Better to prepare our young brigade and let them snatch the #1 spot back than SRT, Rahul and Laxman trying to get it back again. Also, some of the players in the current squad like Dhoni, Raina, Bhajji, Virat, Ishant etc. need to be given a stern warning saying that if they don't pull up their socks and sort out their batting or bowling issues then they will fire them and get other players in the squad. Sometimes it's good to be strict with these players. Oh and BCCI needs to have processes in place to monitor the health and fitness of these players every month, as well as schedule games properly. Stop cramming the schedule of these cricketers with pointless and meaningless T20s.
yoshi Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 nah sachin was sick he went to the hospital and if india let sachin go he could waltz into the current england team- remember that
apuk79 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 people should not forget the importance of dada ganguly ever since he retired India never found a decent batsmen to replace his position. Dada was CLASS ACT - the god of the offside. He contributed the MOST to Indian cricket over the past few years. Much more than Sachin and above Dravid in my opinion. I dont understand how bhaji has got 400 wickets must be bowling on dust bowls in India is only way!

Yeah, he motivated all the players from the dressing room and hand picked the likes of Dhoni and Sehwag from the streets and made them international players.
Andy Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Yeah' date=' he motivated all the players from the dressing room and hand picked the likes of Dhoni and Sehwag from the streets and made them international players.[/quote'] I dont think so, He was the Greatest Ever Politician to have played in Indian Cricket, was a Minnow basher and a FTB as a batsman. Dont know what You are on about. Remember after he left Cricket we started going up as a Cricketing Nation and Became NO.1.

With what I know, they were piling runs in ranji trophy and India A tours before they got selected and selectors already had eye on them and by the way when Viru was selected, Ganguly was not even the captain of the team. They were not street cricketers who Ganguly saw playing on the streets while driving his car for Bharat Darshan. Dhoni had a smashing India A tour before he was picked. This is Sehwag's debut ODI. Jadeja was the captain. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/66216.html

Jadeja was the captain. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/66216.html Yeah but he played only 1 match in 1999. Who was the captain when he was picked again? Also, who was the captain when he played his 1st test in SA? It has rightly been said that Ganguly didn't just make 7000 test runs. You have to add all of Sehwag/Laxman's runs and half of Dravid/Tendulkar's runs to his tally. He sacrificed his personal runs for the team, otherwise he would have scored more runs than any of our current middle-order legends. I don't even want to get into ODIs where Dravid/Sehwag owe their career to him. He was also selfless and let Tendulkar dominate the opening partnership even though he could have stripped Tendu when it came to sheer ability. Imo, Tendulkar wouldn't have made even 10k runs without Ganguly.

Sehwag was in selectors radar because he was doing well at domestic level and every cricketer needs someone's backing to be selected, stay in the team even if not doing well. Potential good players always do well. Why did did not Ganguly backed Dinesh Mongia who in test cricket could have been a very good player for India but never was given any chances. There are many other players who Ganguly did not back likes of Hemang Badaani who was another technically good batsman. Both were not extraordinary but were still good. Extraordinary talent like Sehwag will make their way in any given situation. You are sort of insulting these players by saying that they were selected or became great because of Ganguly. Why others didn't who Ganguly picked too.
