Mukund has played three matches, scored a 50 and 100. Even though he has struggled against short pitch bowling, he has shown the temperament to fight it out in the middle. Give him a chance at #6, he might come good.

cameron_black Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 playing kohli would mean only one left hander will be in the side in gambhir. so it has to be mukund, although i'm not sure how he'll fare in the middle order. and as gunner says, if the indian no.6 comes to the crease around the 85th over, that itself is a huge victory.

It is time to move sehwag to the middle order, the hand eye coordination is going to deteriorate as he gets further into the 30s (he is 32+). Further, Sehwag always wanted to play in the middle order.

I don't trust Raina and Kohli hasn't played in English conditions yet.

Also, would it be a sign of weakness to do it during a series? It has happened before. Sehwag was moved down in NZ in 2002 after Bond bowled it quick and into a ribs a few times (Sehwag was actually not getting into line either). He was also moved down in SA in 2006/07 when his confidence was shot.

Mukund will do no worse, and Sehwag will be far more effective against an older ball in these conditions, and solves the no.6 problem as well. But I can't see the team management going for it.

Sehwag has problems when the ball moves around. I think that he will do well in Australia.

We have already lost the series, and players like Mukund, Raina and Kohli dont deserve to play tests (yet). So, we can as well push Sehwag to bat sensibly, and see if he is up for it.
