What a lot of us in the forum have been asking. Hope at least some of the young'uns deliver. I'm looking forward to seeing Rohit Sharma, Rahane (though not mentioned in the article), Ashwin and Varun. They have the potential to form the core of our future teams. On a side note, hope the current selectors continue for one more year. Except for the selection of Anirudha, I'm fairly happy with their selections so far.

Finally, pleaseeeeee no more Ashish Nehra. We need to inject some adrenaline and energy into this team. Time to give youngsters especially bowlers a chance. Can't wait to see Varun "No compromise on pace" Aaron.

@rkt: Fair point. Hope the selectors stick with the speedsters at least through the Australian tour. I think they will. Varun and Yadav have an edge over Sreesanth (and VP if he sucks in the 4th test) due to their recent performance in the aussie pitches. On the same token, don't you think Mishra deserves another chance in Indian pitches? He has to bowl in spin-unfriendly pitches in England and he was much better than bhajji. Selectors are already looking beyond him. Some people are just unlucky I guess. Badri is another who comes to mind. The dude plays poorly in few ODIs, now he is out of the test picture forever.

These new bowlers will be thrashed on flat Indian pitches and then again selectors will go back to the tried and tested failures.
I don't expect all of them to play together, there would be the tried and tested + a new comer i guess, seeing how dhoni operates. Dhoni is not a guy who likes exploring new options. The new comers would get some games here and there to show the talent. And if they manage to pick a few wickets, even if they get thrashed by Gayle, Pollard etc. no body would mind, because these guys can rape any indian bowler on any wicket in this world.

+1. Any bowler will get murdered on featherbed Indian tracks.

Giving youth an opportunity is good, but focus on the guys who have real potential and then give them a proper run in the side. I hope Duncan Fletcher can be useful here. In his time for England, he was known for identifying Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick as potential Test players even though their first-class records were ordinary at the start of their careers.

His obsession with fast bowling was a double edged sword, though - it also resulted in him giving chance after chance to rubbish like Sajid Mahmood just because of his pace. True about the tailenders' batting - the current long English batting line-up is partly a legacy of Fletcher's keenness on getting the bowlers to contribute with the bat.

Indian team will use old policy of testing players in ODIs. In that case bowlers get murdered on flat tracks and they are not able to show their potential. Batsman who are good in ODIs are considered as new test options. :hmmm:

They should pick guys with pace for the test matches but we will pick only 2 seamers in India. Zaheer is out and Sree will be dropped. So Karma and PK will be the 2 seamers. The chances are that these guys won't get a test match even if they are picked in the test squad unless someone else gets injured.

Why not Iqbal Abdullah? Kid's done quite well
If i were the selector, i would draft him immediately, he is a very promising talent, not only he bowls well, he can contribute a bit with the bat too.

But PK in tests in India..will it work?

PK has been the only bright spot for India in this horror tour. Would be madness to drop him just because he might not hack it in Indian conditions. Its not like we are bursting with options, anyway.
