I AM THE NO.1 SPINNER-Harbhajan Singh

BANGALORE: A stomach injury that cut short his England tour might not be the only worry for Harbhajan Singh, who has also come under fire for his prolonged bad patch. Convalescing at the National Cricket Academy here, he talked to TOI about the bouquets and brickbats. Excerpts... How is your rehabilitation going? The injury is serious. Otherwise, I would have been playing in England now. It will take three more weeks for the tear in the stomach muscle to heal fully. How have you handled the pressure of being India's leading spinner? You don't become the leading spinner of the team by just talking. You have to perform well consistently over a long period of time. I have bowled well and won games for India. That is why I am the No. 1 spinner. Every time I have taken the field, I have given my 100%. I want to get better. Is this the toughest phase of your career? I was out for seven months due to a finger injury in 2004 and also underwent surgery. I hope nothing similar happens to me again. I am out because I am injured. How do you rate your recent performances? I did well in the West Indies where I picked 11 wickets in the Test series. A few catches were put down off my bowling. Otherwise it would have been 14 or 15. I also scored a half-century which mattered in the team's victory and that was the only (Test) we won there. The England series was a bigger challenge because of the quality of cricket involved. The conditions were tough. The England tour has turned out to be very disappointing for you... I created chances. A few catches were put down and some of the LBW decisions didn't go in my favour. But there is no scope for complaining and you should be mature enough to take those in your stride. There are days where you do everything right and nothing goes in your favour. At the end of the day, my figures looked ordinary. The 'experts' only look at the final figures and opine that I bowled fast, I bowled too slow and all that. But I know I am the same bowler. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-08-12/interviews/29880142_1_england-series-bouquets-and-brickbats-england-tour

no, you're not. amit mishra has a brighter future. you don't spin the ball, you dart it in. your average has been 35+ in the last 2 years. You don't provide an attacking threat in tests. You are probably a more dangerous batsman. You can play ODIs and are a good defensive option, but you should gracefully make way in tests.

i don't understand this pointless bashing. didn't you guys see how other spinners in swann and mishra suffered similarly on unresponsive tracks? give the guy a break, he's been bowling with an injury, i give him credit for trying at least...

If he had 1 poor series, no one would really be so critical.
