A spate of injuries on the tour of England - Zaheer Khan first and now Ishant Sharma - means Jharkhand's Varun Aaron has been drafted into the ODI side for the matches against England. The speedster knows he has reaped the immediate benefits of impressive performances in the Emerging Players' tournament Down Under but he wasn't expecting a quick call-up to the Indian team. "I was happy with the way I bowled in Australia. But to be honest, I was never thinking about an international call-up. Now that it's there, I will look to put my best foot forward," an excited Aaron told TOI on Monday. The 21-year-old hit the headlines after hitting 153 km/h in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match for his state earlier this year. "It's not all about pace at the highest level. If you can't maintain your line and length, pace will prove to be easy fodder for the batsman," he added. Aaron's coach in the Emerging tournament, Bharath Arun, feels the bowler's strength is his ability to maintain a good line at top pace. "Aaron bowled at over 140 kmph all day in Australia and sometimes even topped the 150 kmph mark. What marked him out was the fact that he didn't lose his line at any point of time," Arun said. India's bowling coach Eric Simons has seen Aaron from close quarters during his stint with the Daredevils. "I know Simons well and his tips have been very useful. The England tour is a great learning experience for any bowler and with Simons there I am looking to learn a lot more," he added. Aaron, who suffered a stress fracture in his back last year, said, "I recovered from the injury very well. Playing ODIs too early at start of career has a risk - that it may develop a 'containing' bowler attitude.

Very interesting. To get confirmation of his pace from a foreign speed gun feels good. An accurate express bowler is indeed the need of the hour :two_thumbs_up: I wonder what Umesh's speed was like ? Any references ?

He as well as Umesh Yadav both could have get a lot if they were in England instead of Golgappa Singh bhai sahab.

If you have stress fractures at a tender age then they heal quickly and it makes your back stronger for further stress. Most of the genuine fast bowlers suffer stress fracture at a young age and if a bowler comes out well from them, he gets less back injury in future. Mitchell Johnson had 4 stress fracture by the time he was 22, but now he does not have serious injuries because body gets stronger after that.

Stress fracture at a tender age helps bowler become stronger.

If he deliberately keeps the Thirdman area vacant or persists with useless field placings without any thought or strategies, then it'll be an uphill task for Varun..

He has attended Dhoni's wedding recently..He's vry good mates with Dhoni.. So not one can't dispute his flash tour to England and playing the last match.. Hope other new bowlers too get the necessary support whether they effing attend any wedding or be good mates..

Those speed guns must be installed by Center of Excellence, Brisbane, the academy which organizes this tournament for Cricket Australia. Most of the academies in Aus and England use speed guns to measure speeds of their bowlers in the nets.

Even Wasim Akram embarked this in an interview. Also TA Shekher. I had posted an article about Aaron where TA Sheker talked about Aaron's stress fracture at a tender age. read this: The signs are all there. The early age stress fractures are the scars of any genuinely quick bowler, if Pakistan bowling coach Aaquib Javed is to be believed. “The positives of getting a stress fracture at an early age for a quick bowler is that once the player has recovered, he will only grow from strength to strength as his body develops. That’s what I told Mohammad Amir when he recovered.
