maniac Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 In a interview scenario I would say no...If I was competing with my Best friend,I would do it with integrity and compete fair and square but I wouldn't back stab him or anything like that.

If it was a formal competition, I would do most things within ethical limits to get ahead of him as long as I am not making some serious damage to him. For example, if we both are working for the same company chasing the same client, I would do anything within ethical limits to get the client/project/account/whatever ahead of him. However if he has his job on the line for the account, I might just go the other way and help him get the account. Since the original question says "screw over", my answer would be know. I am not much of a friend if I can easily "screw over" a friend for some personal gain, am I?

Interviewers are fast running out of witty questions these days with the internet and the social networking websites. For example, now that CT has posted this question here (and may be on FB and twitter and whatnot), the question may not remain a surprise question for many. Interviews ask all kinds of dumb questions just to see how a candidate reacts. And they are running out of all kinds of surprise questions.

I had opportunity (and strong reason) to do that (OP). I chose not to, and tried my best to make it work. But I am sure my friend would have voted 'yes' above (but anonymously).

But I wouldn't cheat, I wouldn't backstab, I wouldn't lie. I would be ethical. As daisy uncle said, if it's about healthy competition then yes, It's "I" before "U".
