The Outsider Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Wow! This thread has descended into lunacy - Jadeja is a better bowler than Pathan? Even Jadeja's mom would not say that and feed some nice Dhoklas to these fanboys on ICF for being so adoring to him! As for recent performances, here is Pathan with a batting average of 34 and a bowling average of 29: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/32685.html?class=2;spanmax1=12+Jan+2013;spanmin1=12+Jan+2012;spanval1=span;template=results;type=allround;view=innings And here is slumdog with a batting average of 16() and a bowling average of 62(): http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/234675.html?class=2;spanmax1=12+Jan+2013;spanmin1=12+Jan+2012;spanval1=span;template=results;type=allround;view=innings But yeah stats don't tell the story, you actually have to witness Jadeja on the field to realize this God's gift to cricket. Madness - am out of this discussion, there simply is no point.
Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 its not about not wanting 30 overs of spin.I want as many bowling options as options.last game Jadeja bowled from the 12th over n bowled in the end at KP,u seiously think Raina could've done well there?Yuvraj would hv been required to bowl more overs too.also unlike Yuvraj,Raina is very iunreliable as a bowler.just had a good day testerday I like the combo of 6 bats+Jadeja/Irfan+4 bowlers.but we need to find better batsmen n bowlers.yesterday we didnt lose bcoz of lack of 7th batsman, but last overs of England innings n no one of top 6 carrying on for long Then play with 10 bowlers/all rounders, no ? No matter how many options you have they still have only 50 overs. If Yuvraj is doing equally well, as a bowler then bringing in Jadeja, and sacrificing batting makes no sense. Especially in a batting order which is in bad form. And then not bowling UV. :giggle: Either Jadeja needs to turn into a wickettaker, or do better with the bat to justify his place. Just keeping it tight is not enough and UV/Raina can do it too. And what's his use abroad ? He can't even do that there.
bharat297 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 One thing I've noticed with Jadeja. I don't know whether this is due to the slower pitches at Ranji and in general the slower bowlers , but he is often late on the ball. It's good to hit the ball late but very often he is too late on it. That's why his six attempts often struggle to clear the bigger boundaries or his pull-shots go towards wider mid-on. Even in the Test match against England where Anderson got him lbw, he played down the wrong line but that line would have been ok had he moved there a bit earlier and leant forward into the ball. I don't think "slogging" comes naturally to him. If Jadeja wants to cement his spot in the Indian ODI side, he should focus on being a player that can come in and find the gaps and work around 1s and 2s. The problem with him now is that he is getting bogged down and can accumulate dot balls. It's different when Dhoni does it because Dhoni has proven time after time that he can make up for it in the death overs. Jadeja needs to learn how to score at a run a ball without hitting boundaries. Michael Bevan would be a good example for him to look at. If he can do that and then make his mark as a bowler that can bowl 10 overs for < 40 runs, along with his brilliant fielding he becomes one of the most valuable ODI players in the game. But at the moment he's not doing that consistently.
Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Jadeja needs time to score runs. He has never looked comfortable when he tried to slog pace bowlers. All his fifty plus scores have come at 75 or less strike rate. I think he can bat before Raina because Raina doesnt seem to like being an accumulator. He is more of an attacking batsman, likes to score boundaries and likes the role of a finisher. Many times, he gets out by trying to play too defensively. I would rather see Jadeja play the batsman who builds a partnership in the middle, so Raina and Dhoni can play freely at the end. We are seeing Raina and Dhoni too quickly in the innings in the last few ODIs, so Jadeja could be pushed up just to anchor the innings. He is not good in the death overs anyway. Raina and Dhoni are better at constructing innings than Jadeja anyway. They are not mere sloggers. Jadeja coming up will waist balls, and leave Raina and Dhoni with too less time to change things. Take even yesterday as example, where if Jadeja came in first Dhoni would have been left with a even more impossible situation.

I dont know why u keep on comparing the two.as I said we need both.Jadeja to bowl his overs as a 5th bowler, n Yuvraj to bowl the overs for the bowler which gets thrashed.we have that regularly now I agree Yuvi should be bowling more.no doubt about that. also Jadeja is young n developing,I'm sure he'll start taking wickets too soon.atm hes doing better than even Ashwin,so dunno why his place should be in doubt. atm we cant play 7 bats coz our bowling is not as good.just need to play better top 6 imo

vandokkum Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Jadeja is a six hitting machine, for the opposition
Vivek.S.123 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 The problem is that Jadeja and Rohit are being picked to play in the WRONG format. Both of them are test players and will have more success in the Test arena than the LOIs arena.
youngindia Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Jadeja's bowling skills are on the weaker side. he will never be the classy bowler or the matchwinner. his potential is in batting. however at the current stage, i don't see him as a matchwinning bat in the near future. there are many things that has to mature for that to happen. his thinking and approach hardly looks mature. struggles to adapt to conditions.the self belief to be a world beater does not seem to be there. he has not reached that stage. he has to expand his game and has to further grow in all aspects to do that. however all inexperienced players have passed through similar phases in the past and some of them atleast have fulfilled their potential. haranguing about past is often pointless. players have suddenly disccovered their true worth at different times. in fact the player he is most simialr to jayasuriya was avergaing only 17 after six years of internationals and its a cnetury in adelaide that convinced him he can be so good. players like rohit ,ishant and jadeja are sturggling becaused they have not figured things out and do not have this belief as yet.

saneindian Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 He needs to get a haircut done and change that hairstyle at the earliest. Part of the reason why people hate him is due to that curly crop of hair as well.
King Tendulkar Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 The problem is that Jadeja and Rohit are being picked to play in the WRONG format. Both of them are test players and will have more success in the Test arena than the LOIs arena. Jadeja a test player. Stop this nonsense
Vivek.S.123 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Jadeja a test player. Stop this nonsense Check his first class stats for both Batting and Bowling.
King Tendulkar Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Check his first class stats for both Batting and Bowling. So you basis selction for india test team based on figures, without looking at wether has skill set to achieve(cant place pace or back of a length bowling). You sound like an indian selctor:winky:
rahulrulezz Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 So you basis selction for india test team based on figures' date=' without looking at wether has skill set to achieve(cant place pace or back of a length bowling). You sound like an indian selctor:winky:[/quote'] so his pathetic skills and stats in LOI makes him a good ODI player but his good first class stats makes him a pathetic Test player
Marut Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Jadeja would be more suited for test cricket. But he will be average in whatever format he plays.
Vivek.S.123 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 FACT IS that Jadeja will have more success in Tests than ODIs. PERIOD
vandokkum Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 The problem is that Jadeja and Rohit are being picked to play in the WRONG format. Both of them are test players and will have more success in the Test arena than the LOIs arena. Funniest post I have seen, Sharma has usually been getting bowled by straighter ones/ incoming deliveries while trying to defend. I would love to see how in tests those delivering won't get him out :giggle: and LMAO at Jadeja. India are better off trying likes of Rahane / Tiwary before Sharma and Jadeja in tests.
Lord Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Jadeja will be lucky to play another test in forseeable future
maniac Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Jadeja will be lucky to play another test in forseeable future He is going to play against Aussies...Kupthaan Thanda has already praised his bowling and fielding against England in the 4th test :--D
