Lord Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 in the game in he SL,he won with Raina,he made 34 off 31 in tied game,he made 8 off 5 in game v Aus we won,he didnt even play explosive scores:P Irfan is defintely better bowler in foreign condition,n better hitter too,but thats after playing son many years.Jadeja is improving too as he showed today
Lord Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 You play horses for courses too' date=' some times. Jaddu is not an all-season bowler. He is handy only in SC. His past record outside SC has been poor.[/quote'] initially its expected for a spinner to struggle overseas.he'll get better by playing.

In that tied game, his six off Matthews no-ball made the tie possible in the end. Also when he came we needed 90 runs in the Raina's game. Didn't need explosive but he didn't bogged down and started playing maidens.

youngindia Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Ambati Rayudu should be our #7' date=' with Raina moving to #5[/quote'] I am ok with batsmen as no 7.the only issue here is the 5th bowler . time and again ODI scenarios have shown the no 7 batsman is crucial to getting over the line. Against strong attacks like aus and pak, he will most likely be needed. one has to look no further the WC QF and SF india played. SA collapsed spectaularly with botha at no 7! playing bowling allroundner in a batsman's position is second rate strategy. A bowling allrounder is an advantage when you play him in a bowler's position. that advantage is squandered off when you play him in a batsman's position. and you don't rely on bowlers to win in batting roles, unless you are a gambler. you rely on batsmen to win.

Drop Ashwin for Jadeja. Yuvraj and Raina can bowl 5 overs each to complete the 5th bowler quota
youngindia Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Irfan is defintely better bowler in foreign condition,n better hitter too,but thats after playing son many years.Jadeja is improving too as he showed today. Irfan certainly has the experience and may have qualities jadeja is yet to learn. comapring a highly seasoned player to a junior player is as unfair as it gets. but teams have often wasted him in batting positions and it would be short sighted to do so again. jadeja is more about potential and future.as long a batsman is at no7, there is nothing to worry.

SA would have collapsed anyway.it was a WC knockout:--D the advantage a bowling allrounder has is that he is always iequired n the game and bowls his overs.whereas a lot of times 7th batsman is wasted in good batting lineups when the overs finish or top 6 chase down a target.a bowler who can play cameos n handle pressure is generally good enough
rkt.india Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 initially its expected for a spinner to struggle overseas.he'll get better by playing. by the time, he will get better, we will be out of the tournament like last time T20 WC.:winky:
Cevno Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 by the time' date=' he will get better, we will be out of the tournament like last time T20 WC.:winky:[/quote'] Haha yeah! Can't believe people want us to experiment in Champions trophy. Frankly i am not confident with either Jadeja or Pathan at 7. In English conditions we'll probably need the number 7 to bat on many occasions and especially more if our batsman keep batting like they are. Maybe Pathan at 7, Jadeja at 8 and Ashwin at 9 could work ? But not convinced by having both Bhuvneshwar and Irfan in a 3 man seam attack and having atleast 20 to 25 overs of spin each game.
youngindia Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 .whereas a lot of times 7th batsman is wasted in good batting lineups when the overs finish or top 6 chase down a target.a bowler who can play cameos n handle pressure is generally good enough no basis in fact. even a all time great team like aus needed the 7th batsman. these are the short sighted views that gavaskar and shastri have been ramming down the throats with shallow thinking. they are speaking as if we are accumalating 300 after 300 vs sl,NZ and zim sides at home with sachin or ganguly making hundred after hundred. once you are scratch the surface, one will find that outside asia or against strong attacks , it often gets tighter . a bowler playing a cameo to win only counts as a escape. it cannot be a rule or strategy.period. my experience and observation over sevral years have noticed the importance of the 7th batsman in several scenarios.i am not putting it here out of blind faith.irfan can hardly do the job kaif ,uthappa and raina did in various situations.

Agreed. 7th batsman contributes more often over the 5th bowler and especially when the 5th bowler is not a wicket taker or much better than the other existing options.

King Tendulkar Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 How is it OTT? Pathan is leagues ahead of Jadeja as a bowler. Jadeja is nothing but a darter. Even if you just look at the numbers, Pathan smokes Jadeja completely. He picks up 1.5 wickets per match as opposed to 1 wicket per match. Pathan averages 29 and Jadeja 36. And here is the relevant part, Pathan averages 30 and 23 in Australia and England which are the venues of the next major championships, Jadeja averages 100 and 38! There is simply no comparison between Pathan and Jadeja in those conditions and last year's CB series showed it. ps average of 38 is ok in england What were his economy rates in those tours?

Manny_Pacquiao Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 jadeja is crap. he hasn't shown any improvement since he made his debut. his bowling is more or less where it was when he first debuted, he won man of the match awards back then as well. he is wicket-taker when there is scoreboard pressure on turning pitches. he is restrictive on slower pitches. he is free runs everywhere else. his batting has seemingly gotten worse, due to the demands put on him by the team as they try to use him as a lower order slogger. his innings against england was a typical once in 20 innings type fluke, it was like watching afrandi batting left handed. ugly swipes across the line, and the usual crappy running between the wickets. for some bizarre reason, the english bowlers kept giving him width. anyone that is convinced of his batting ability based on such a crappy innings isn't worth taking seriously. i'd keep him as a 12th man that comes on to field in place of the slower, more useless fielders. outside of that, he has very little utility. another thing - india should quit wasting their time on these bits and pieces cricketers. the one day team is at its best when it has 7 batsmen. india won't win games with 'balance', they win games by out-batting the other team. this means guys like jadeja should piss off

Yes and No. I don't think we can just say go into "defensive" mode and "attacking" mode. I don't think the extra bouncer an over should change your overall approach that much. Ultimately the best top order ODI batsmen can score at 4+/over without taking a risk. For that our top order need to be a) Technically solid enough to keep out the good balls b) Have the placement and timing to put away a bad ball c) Run well between wickets I'm hoping Rahane and Pujara can do this.
