ganeshran Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Congrats Bishoo  A bright prospect in the years to come. West Indies legspinner Devendra Bishoo has won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award. He overcame competition from his team-mate Darren Bravo and the Pakistani pair of Wahab Riaz and Azhar Ali. The award was announced by England's Ian Bell, who won it in 2006. Bishoo, 25, played five Test matches in the voting period and took 21 wickets at an average of 35.42. He also picked up 19 wickets at 21.57 in 11 ODIs. "First of all I'd like to congratulate all the nominees for the ICC Emerging Player of the Year," Bishoo, who could not attend the awards ceremony, said. "I'd like to thank the ICC for giving me this award and I'm delighted to receive it. I'd like to thank my mother, my manager and all the players who have supported me throughout my career. I'm happy where I am and I am going to keep on working hard for the West Indies and continue to improve and keep playing good cricket." Previous winners of this award are Irfan Pathan (2004), Kevin Pietersen (2005), Ian Bell (2006), Shaun Tait (2007), Ajantha Mendis (2008), Peter Siddle (2009) and Steven Finn (2010).
Yoda-esque Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Good bowler, but I am only congratulating him since I need to reach 2000 posts by today..
Serani Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Very impressive young spinner, would say he is in top 3 spinners in the world atm.
Laaloo Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Very impressive young spinner' date=' would say he is in top 3 spinners in the world atm.[/quote'] I agree. He's up there along with Ajmal and Harbhajan although Vettori would have something to say about that.
TheYuvi02 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 I agree. He's up there along with Ajmal and Harbhajan although Vettori would have something to say about that. ajmal and swann are miles ahead of dartbhajan.. even bishoo is better than darty.
Yoda-esque Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011  ajmal and swann are miles ahead of dartbhajan.. even bishoo is better than darty. Ajmal is a chucker...Bishoo and Swann:two_thumbs_up:
Serani Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 and we are forgetting Ajmal isnt actually a bowler so Bishoo is in the top 2, well done. Went for a trip over to PP after I realised who he beat to the award, seems poor Wahab Riaz has been robbed :giggle:
TheYuvi02 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Ajmal is a chucker...Bishoo and Swann:two_thumbs_up: so is murali.. but icc has cleared him so i dont wanna cry about that, hell i think even darty was called as chucker but then was cleared. As a bowler ajmal kills dartbhajan but swann is still ahead of him
TheYuvi02 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 and we are forgetting Ajmal isnt actually a bowler so Bishoo is in the top 2, well done. Went for a trip over to PP after I realised who he beat to the award, seems poor Wahab Riaz has been robbed :giggle: :haha:
ganeshran Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 This award isnt really given for current performances, its for the player who has the most potential to perform in the future. Ajmal, Swann and Bhajji will not come in the same category at all. He has the goods and a great cricketing brain. Hope he goes places for the sake of Windies cricket
jonas10 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 lol Guyana can produce a better Indian origin bowler than Indian can with over a billion Indians.
zoi321 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 riaz been robbed he got 5 wickets against best batting line up in the world in semis i mean cmon!
Gotham Cronie Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Should have been Riaz. Not sure if it well in the timeframe but 5 wicket haul in his first test innings and then 5 wickets in a semi-final against your arch-rival in one of the mostly highly anticipated match ever.
Gotham Cronie Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Arch-rival' date=' Anticipated - These are not factors. Maybe in Pakistan.:giggle:[/quote']
TheYuvi02 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 should have been if it was for declining player of the year award then he would win hands down.. his pace has been declining after every ball he bowls
Jersey #10 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 if it was for declining player of the year award then he would win hands down.. his pace has been declining after every ball he bowls How can you decline without achieving any sort of height to start off with? :giggle: :fail:
