express bowling Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Yadav was fantastic yesterday. In his first 5 overs he was bowling consistently between 140k to 143.6k. Parthiv bowled him 10 overs or so without any break and his pace was slower during his 6 -- 10 overs. Our captains don't know how to use fast bowlers properly ... in short spells, encoraging them to go all out. He bowled outswingers and incutters, some good rising deliveries and yorkers as well. Was bowling to a plan from his 3rd over onwards. Real good stuff. Aaron, on the other hand, seemed to have caught the " Indian-team-bowling-within-himself-fever ". He was moving the ball both ways but was rarely hitting the deck hard. Pace was down as well. I have never seen Varun bowl with so little effort. Too early to comment but given the heavy discouragement that the Indian team management shows towards effort bowling, it is a bad sign that it is happening just after Aaron spending time with the Indian team.

express bowling Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 did you watch the match yadav was unplayable at times and hit akash chopra twice on gloves averaged 138km/h in a 10 over spell with fastest being 143km/h and he looked much faster than that he was looking like 147-148 . The domestic speed gun is perhaps 3 to 5 k slower than the average internation speed gun, from my experience.

So naturally, in order to impress them he has to make sure that his figures portray accuracy with a low economy rate. I doubt he will bowl quick in this game. He will probably try to give less runs with greater control to ensure that dhoni picks him in the playing 11. If he bowls slower than usual then our team management and leadership is squarely to blame.

[/quote'] NO..you don't understand..T20 is easy on players that is why many a cricketers found tough to survive in test cricket and left it to play T20. That's it. T20 is a fast game but duration is very short in a single match...90 minutes at the most in field.

So the only reason to cut down on pace would be to 'satisfy' the team mgmt's concern of him being wayward. There's a reason icfer's have been discussing about the different mentality needed to groom genuine quick bowlers which is sorely lacking in India. We just don't know how to groom tearaway bowlers. In any case, I'm impressed with the effort put in by the 2 quickies on this track so far. Unfortunately, vinay ko-maar got the reward for their toil by picking up a couple of wkts.

There can be an off game for any player bowler or batsman, but until Varun Aaron starts picking up wickets on a regular basis in FC matches, I do not think he can be really considered for test matches for India. He is still very young, needs play full season of ranji trophy this year and pick wickets. Though he picked wickets in EPT, more than Umesh Yadav but here Yadav bowled better than him. Bowlign fast or 140+ i snot an ultimate thing, that is just an added advantage. Any bowler who picks up wickets whether he has pace or not is good, but if that bowler has pace then that is the best thing we can hope for.
Trundler27 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 honestly, the ideal scenario for both these fellas would be to play an entire odi series under the tutelage of Zaheer khan. I'm sure they will gain more experience doing that compared to what they might get in an entire ranji season. They need a mentor just like ishant got early on during his career. Unfortunately during the england and WI series their mentor's will be PK, VK and aravind. So they'll probably end up learning the hard way.

I remember umar gul was bowling 128-135s in abu dhabi last year. Its not easy bowling fast in hot weather conditions like jaipur or abu dhabi. People who have played cricket would know abt this.

We are just expressing our individual opinion. I don't mean to put down dhoni. He has done great things for indian cricket in the past 5 yrs. However, I was just pointing out the general mentality of the indian mgmt when it comes to pace bowlers... that's all ... plain and simple. I just hope that these 2 guys get a decent number of games in the upcoming odi's and let their performance talk. If they show enough to warrant further attention then good on them and good for indian cricket... if not, then back to our never ending supply of domestic champion bowlers like (put anything here) ko-maar.
